We could have any type of passing game next year, I'm a little bit nervous about Bray at QB, and more nervous about Stephens. I hope Bray beats him out this spring, but without any type of passing game, its would be a long year for Brown.

Bray's redshirting IMO. Will either be Stephens or Simms. Can't throw Bray out there without a line and get him killed. If we have a solid line emerge I think you could see Bray later in the year. But if the line improves hopefully one of the other two will have the qb situation settled until Bray is ready for the job next year or even his soph. year

Stephens will start this year and will be solid, he's a leader now and he's the QB our team needs this year

Now if only the whole team could quit calling him Pick Nick. How can he have confidence in himself with everyone around him having no confidence in him. But yah, i'm sure Nick is the sure fire starter......

Anyone who believes Bray is our best option at QB before he has even stepped foot on a practice field at this level is delusional or knows nothing about the game

Or knows about the Quality of QBs on our roster.

I have no idea who the QB will be, but it isn't Stephens' to lose. He hasn't proven anything. But to answer your question, yes. We will have a pretty good passing game. Moore, Jones, Teague, and Stocker will contribute ALOT. Milton and Rogers will make an immediate impact too, and Rivera could be a big factor. Chaney is going to have us in shotgun alot more than we were last year to give the QB more time and better vision to make reads. Hiestand has an amazing reputation for developing talent at OL, and Baggett's body of work speaks for itself. To be honest, I'm more worried about the running game. Losing Eddie Gran kinda sucks.

Best case scenario.. Simms and Stephens just excel at this new offense and battle it out for the starting spot, give Bray a chance to redshirt and really get the system under his belt for a full year. If our passing game struggles I really think our stable of RB's will do ok, except the fact that our offensive line is unproven....but of course our offensive line last year wasn't anything to stand up and get excited about. Should be an interesting year. VB

Agreed about the OL. But luckily Chaney and Dooley are both TE guys. We're gonna be pretty good at that position, and its going to be tough for teams to get around the ends. I'm assuming its gonna be all zone blocking again this year. With Chaney calling the plays instead of Kiffin, Tauren Poole has the potential to have mind-boggling stats. Some of the cuts he made in those high school highlight videos were insane. He looks like he's in a pinball machine.

As far as the QB situation, I think some forget how much game time experience Simms has over Stephens on the college level. Although Stephens has more time in this system learning from Chaney. It will be a dog fight to the end to determine who will start IMO. Bray and Nance redshirt and we get to have this same conversation a year from now.

I think the running game will be too. I see B. Brown getting ALOT of pressure from Poole, Williams and Oku for the starting job. Neal redshirts and his name is in the mix with them next year.

I believe Stephens will start if he can hold it together emotionally. I believe he will.

The answer to your question has nothing to do with the QB though. Any of 3 guys could have success IMO- Bray, Stephens, Simms. The real issue is whether any QB will have enough time to get a pass off.

I think we'll be electric in the season opener, like last year! Not sure after that when we start playing some real defenses.
All jokes aside I agree with whoever said we will have a lot of 2-4 yard dump passes to the RB's and Luke. If we can get those off (with success) often enough to buy whoever is QB some time then yes all those potential WR weapons should come into play. I think we will have to be balanced on our attack to help the line, the young QB, and the young RB's.

Ill go on record as saying we will FOR SURE pass the ball in every game next year.

I would say about 60-40 next year. I said the same about Crompton at this point last year....

Run the ball enough and have enough success at it, that the passing game doesn't get you beat. We need to pass the ball 20-25 times a game to be successful.

But the problem is that they know that we know that we need to only throw it 20-25 times. So does that mean that we actually throw it 20 times a game or do we bank on them knowing that we know that they know that we want to throw it as little as possible, so we throw it 30+ times a game? Of course if they know that we know that they know that we know that we need to throw it as little as possible, Dooley might also run a lot of playaction in which case I fully expect the opposing defense to just curl up into the fetal position and allow us to score 50 pts a game. It's almost too easy.
