Is the The Swain Event Down Today?

Erik is the reason I got into the old TSR. Probably the best show on that old station

I agree, his was the only show I never missed. I listen to the Swain Event but it feels like its just the best of what we're left with. That probably sounds more critical than I mean it. I enjoy the show most of the time but it doesn't compare to Ainge. I'm going to listen to RTI for the next couple weeks and decide which to listen to regularly.

Eriks weekly segment will enhance some after the season starts but will not ever be full time in the foreseeable future he is doing too well financially in his job to go back to full time radio. He is doing some coaching too and with the family he is more into the regular gig. The afternoon RTI show is great and we (Rice Buick GMC) are excited to help get Erik back on the air regularly. We were big sponsors of his previous show and hated to see it go. Literally was the only sports radio show I listened to regularly. He can break down games, plays and practices like no one else on the radio IMO. His segments will usually be on Friday but follow Erik, RTI or Rice Buick GMC on Twitter for appearance times and days.

Not taking anything away from Swain and Seth they have a good show and I think Seth takes WAY too much criticism when he is such a key part of their show happening.

Thanks for sponsoring Erik's segment on RTI....couldn't agree more with you that he's outstanding and as good as they come in terms of articulating the details and intricacies of the game....used to very willingly wade through the sophomoric stuff when he was on the radio with JayBay to get get to listen to his expertise.

As far as Seth....will respectfully disagree. Love Swain though...great dude, great VFL, best alternative currently to get the player's perspective, even though Seth evidently believes he holds that mantle. Anywho, thanks again Brian.

😳....Swain is about as good a dude as they come while Stokes is an arrogant ass IMO. Wow.

I think Stokes is just a guy who's always been average and he's developed a complex that he's not 100% willing to admit. So to cover it up he has to have a loud bark, but tucks his tail when Swain disagrees.

That's why Stokes doesn't bug me too much. Swain just isn't a very smart guy, but he is pretty nice.

I have a different take on Swain. I think he's very smart, very knowledgable, obviously very personable and very humble (unlike Strokes).....he just, at times, doesn't articulate, even annunciate his thoughts very well. But I never think he's not smart or doesn't know what he's talking about. Jmo.

Aaaaand they are off the air again today.

This is true.

How do they think they will get any kind of REAL following if they are on the air sometimes, off the air sometimes, etc?

If they are employees of that station, then the station needs to have a substitute ready and NOT play some national sports show.

If they are independent contractors and buy air time, at the very least an announcement should be made when commercials are run that the "Swain Event" will not be heard today because of ____, but will be back on Monday, etc.

To just not have any kind of show and no announcement why is really, REALLY low rent. It's something you might expect in some small town with a population of 10,000 with one radio station and the morning guy wakes up with a sore throat and can't make it. But in a town of 200,000 people with an SEC team to just not have shows that are scheduled...well, those people who run that station are CRAZY if they think I'd advertise with them. People won't listen if there is no continuity of on-air talent, and if people aren't listening, I'm not spending my advertising dollar.

Can be a little annoying when they're "down" or not on the air altogether. Personally though, I like Swain's show and the information he provides enough to try and listen everyday either live or via podcast. If he's not on I just think "meh, that sucks", and then tune in the next time he's on.

We announced it Wednesday and Thursday that we would be off today.

Not everyone can listen every minute of every day to your show.

Those of us who were Providentially Hindered from listening Wednesday and Thursday had no ideal why the show was not on today. My comments that an announcement is required TODAY--during the time period the show is scheduled--remain valid. Without an announcement being made during the time slot today, the show is presented as being backwater and decidedly less than professional.

Perception is reality. YOU may think an announcement the days before the show is not on the air is sufficient. However, to someone just tuning in today, the show not being on the air is just another example of the unreliability that has become the byline for The Swain Event. One day it's the server. The next day it's Go Daddy. The next day, its something else. Point is, it's always something. These shenannigans NEVER OCCUR WITH YOUR COMPETITION. As horrible as the "Sports Animal" is, I have never tuned in to hear Jimmy Hyams and John Wilkerson and heard nothing but dead air. "The Swain Even" cannot make the same claim.

I completely understand your concern and frustration. I personally have been working to fix the reliability issues with 1180. The streaming issue on the swainevent.com was the first we have had since the site has been up. The app stream was working but the site was down thanks to Go Daddy. But again, regardless of circumstance it wasn't working and believe me, it is frustrating for myself and Swain and embarrassing.

As far as running and announcement during stop sets on a day we are on vacation, I would like to but the current setup with 1180 prohibits me from doing so. Though it's not a common practice to do so I would like to do it. Again, I understand and share your frustration.

I would be more than happy to address these things in further detail with you. Its just a lot of stuff to put on a message board. But if you would like to email me seth@swainevent.com I'll be more than happy to go over the challenges that I am working to fix and overcome so that we can provide listeners and advertisers with a better experience.

You are dealing with a lot here. This has gotten silly. I heard you weren't gonna be on a day or two before. Thanks for what you do.

It's all good. People are entitled to their opinions. Message boards are built to give those opinions and discuss things. I don't take anything personally.

Thanks for listening to the show!

This is me as well. It's not a huge deal but after being so used to listening every morning, I do miss it when it's not there.

I'll say this: I am very thankful that we have the Swain Event to spare us from the other sports radio Knoxville offers. It's the off-season...give them a break. Things will pick up in a week or so.

Yeah I don't envy them having to fill a daily 3 hour show during the off season.

Hey Seth I do wish you guys would look into bringing back the "active" text box where we can follow other listener's thoughts in realtime. To me that was one of the best features under the old format. It gave the show a much more "communal" feeling being able to interact, not only with you guys but with other listeners at the same time.

I'd listen to that commercial every break if they'd quit letting Steve babble on the air every damn day...
