Is the 3 permanent teams argument overblown?

There's concern some teams will get shafted with their permanent 3 teams in the 9 game schedule. I dont see it being a big deal. Am I wrong?
So for example, the biggest discussion, Bama could get Tenn/Auburn/LSU. "Should we give Bama LSU?"
I think you set permanents how you want/makes sense and just start with those toughest draws. All you have to do is make sure the rest of the schedule is balanced. If Bama is playing 3 of the better teams, that means the remaining 6 games are going to be against more likely lesser opponents. Simply dont stack them and make one of the 2 years lopsided. I know scheduling isn't that easy, but I dont see the big deal.
What if Tenn gets the easier Bama/Vandy/UK, then they also draw Texas/ Georgia/Florida/Oklahoma/LSU/Auburn the same year? Just showing an extreme example to show that turns out to be a brutal, lopsided schedule.
Am I wrong and the concerns are real?

I agree completely. With 12 opponents rotating through your schedule every other year, strength of schedule is going to mostly be a wash inside the conference. What’s going to be tough is UGA, Florida, SC, OU having that quality P4 opponent on their schedule every year. They may schedule technical colleges for their other OOC games just so they can make it through the schedule.

I agree - it’s overblown and not going really penalize or reward anyone. Every team that is championship minded knows they are playing the regular season to get into the playoffs. Your 3 permanent opponents only make up 25% of your schedule and aren’t going to make or kill your playoff chances.

I believe we’re moving incrementally towards a schedule with all power 4 conference opponents. The 4 conferences (or potentially 2) are going to expand to include a max of about 60 teams. This will be the pool of teams we schedule because this will be the big time college football league. It may or may not be part of the NCAA but it’s going to be more NFLish and less like the old college days when you had a number of gimmes on your schedule every year.

Teams will be better and worse over the years and decades. If you were an elite team in the 2010's, then Tennessee wasn't a horrible match up on most years for example. Auburn isn't that great right now for example, 5 or 6 years from now they could be a nightmare on any teams schedule. Vandy will always be a bottom feeder (for example), but the rest on your schedule you just never know when you look into the future.

I went through and tried to simulate a fair potential 3 permanent team structure based on criteria and even nailing down a format where teams play each other 3 times a year is a challenge. Let alone making the schedules fair. I miss the east and west conferences with rivals. I think they should have kept that, pulled Bama over to the East and slid Oklahoma and Texas into the West.

Yes I was thinking about this too, the rotation turns so quickly every team is going to have much more comparable strength of schedules. There will always be cycles of teams up or down, so sometimes a team may have a slightly easier or more difficult schedule in a given season. For example compare Vols v. Gators schedules this and last year.

How ever it turns out, I just want as much of the yearly traditional rivalry games preserved as possible. For Tennessee, I just want to keep Bummer on the schedule - and I guess Vandy too.

Other than that, I agree that the rotating schedule will likely even out in terms of year-to-year difficulty. GBO!

Alabama potentially getting LSWhoo, The Real UT & Auburn is not really that bad, until you include all of what come with that during the season. You'd actually face everybody every other year anyways (per reports). The 9 total conference games are more problematic than the permanent 3.
