Is Tennessee underrated?

Anyone who “expects” that a transfer QB who has been here for 3 weeks and threw 24 interceptions in the sun belt should win 2 out of 3 between UGA at home and Bama/FLA on the road(and assuming no other slip ups at all) is asking to be disappointed.
Yet I'm told to expect John Mateer to compete for the Heisman at a terrible OU offense.

Also, who is expecting Tenn to win 2 out of 3 between the big 3???

Obviously VN will be biased but the justification for all of these experts or youtubers having Tenn really low and certain other teams higher, potentially being really good teams, doesn't actually make sense to me, and I've watched a ton of prediction videos.
The argument against Tenn: lost a lot on offense, got a transfer no one is raving about. Yeah they got an easy schedule, great defense and finished the highest of these last year, but 8-4 is about right.
Yet someone I'm supposed to believe in OU's offense with their transfer QB and bad OL.
Somehow I'm supposed to pretend Napier didn't almost get fired midseason and Lagway will stay healthy amidst a brutal schedule.
Im supposed to think ole miss is going to be View attachment 765560just fine replacing that defense and QB when they couldn't go better than 9-3 with their best roster ever.
I'm supposed to think S Carolina will be a potential playoff team despite losing their defense. Who is Sellers throwing to?
Point is, Tenn has similar issues to these schools yet everyone still has faith in them and universally people are seeing 8-4 for Tenn with the easiest or 2nd easiest schedule in the SEC.
Heupel has consistently done more with less. Where is the faith in him?
The question is offense per usual when it comes to coach H. Our offensive side of the ball hasn’t been great under him with the exception of the hooker years. And let’s face it, Heupel kind of fell into that situation due to an injury. I think this year will look much like last year if we get comparable play from JA that we did from Nico, which isn’t asking for much. It’s hard to get hype around your program when there is ? About scoring potential.

Not sure but Florida and USC are probably the most suspect where they are. USC is entirely built around Sellers and Florida is not primed for a good year.

We might be overrated. Nobody knows a thing at this point. This is why the first 3 or 4 weeks of the season is always hard to predict.

I tend to be more pessimistic this year than in the past. I hope I’m wrong but I’m not expecting 10-2. I’m thinking more along the lines of 8-4
I’m also predicting 8 wins and a fun season with anything over just being icing on the cake

And that's completely fair. I just find it interesting how undervalued Tenn is compared to other similar teams. Heck, I've seen some say auburn will surprise people, and they got the outcast from OU.
I heard Auburn will play 3 qbs in the first game. That sounds like a problem to me

I think this is where a fanbase might know it's team better than the media (sometimes, that isn't the case)

If you're a media person, and you see Tennessee lost it's 5* starting QB in April, 4/5 starters on the OL and the top 3 WR's, the natural reaction is to assume a step back.

But for the fanbase:

- Nico left a TON of yards and points on the field

- The WR was not dynamic enough (outside Thornton) last year

- The OL was senior laden BUT this group is more talented and athletic (with two two veteran transfers and the best 5* OT this decade maybe)

- A vet QB that might fit the system better

So I do not think we are underrated. I understand the question marks from the national media. But I think it's not crazy this could be a better team than last year, especially if the OL gels.

I don't think the national media knows much about any team that isn't Ohio St, Alabama, or Texas. Or hell, maybe they don't know much about any team.

Heather Dinich and another talking head on ESPN were going on and on the other day about how Squirrel White was a huge loss for our offense, and then went on to say that Syracuse is "loaded."

We’ll be heavy dogs against GA and Bama.

Oklahoma and Florida are the difficult close ones on paper. Mock me later but I believe both that Florida is beatable, but that they are also deep and talented enough to make the playoffs if they play well.

We have to win two of four to have a good year, and three to be a contender for the playoff.

Sadly I think both Florida and Oklahoma will be very good.

I can see us surprising a team we shouldn’t beat by controlling the clock and shortening the game with good defense and runs.

We have always done well when we have an elite Mike and athletic backers. This group is very good. The DL and OL are solid. Our DBs are good but thin. I think our receivers will be better than people think because the running game will take pressure off of them. RB and TE will be strengths. We have lots of new TE plays from the addition of Littrell.

Littrell is proving to be a massive contributor in scouting and offensive strategy. He’s been a big surprise.

We’ll have to stay healthy to do well.

I don’t know why I broke this into two line sections.
Probably, for our slow readers o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

IMO we are.

It seems so many think games are won and lost on QB play. The truth is we are very strong in the trenches which is where it is most needed. The O-line needs to gel, but the talent is there. The D-line will be about as good as last year.

Idk if we get back to the playoffs but 9 wins should happen.

I think we have a playoff caliber roster except for some big question marks at the receiver and quarterback positions. If those spots exceed expectations, smash the over and get ready for another fun season.
I agree with you totally, until we hit the field and see how wr and qb play we don't really know. If they excell, we can be in the playoffs again, if not 8-4
