Is Tennessee a career killer?

My thing with Petrino is what he does in his personal life is his, regardless of my disapproval of those actions. His job is to win football games and keep kids from getting in trouble on and off the field. As far as I know, his programs are run pretty clean and considering his lack of big time recruiting I doubt he's doing that dirty.

I agree and think Petrino would have been a good hire.

Petrino. We beat the brakes off of UF with him calling that game. Likely UGA too.

Petrino, we should have had a cavalcade of coeds ride up on some Harleys to his front door with a contract in hand. If his wife didn't mind his joy rides, why should anyone else? It is 2014 my friends.

Petrino would be a huge get but it probably won't happen.

If a coaching change comes to Knoxville, it will likely be 2 years from now and Petrino will probably be at another big program at that point.

It's seriously time to start looking at George Quarles and put him on a 5 year plan. Bring him in as tight end coach, and then offensive coordinator and have him ready to be the head coach in 5 years. I am a Butch believer but at least have on the staff just in case. Hugh Freeze was not as good as GQ when they were both high school coaches in this state.

Butch is in the middle of his second season here and you guys are out of your minds to even compare Kiffin and Dooley to Butch and what he has accomplished in this short time. The wins are not there because our offense is turning the ball over giving away field position and taking us out of games due to an undeveloped line. But there is a fire and desire in this program that transcends all the past failures and negativity and it started when Butch Jones got here . Give it some time people.

Just looked up Quarles…could be Freeze 2.0. I definitely would agree with this move, but who would pull the strings to make this happen?

Mine was sarcasm.. as an Alum & a 30 yr. donor I would never want a Petrino. Anyone here actually want their daughter riding up to Petrino on a bike for a joy ride?

He's at Louisville he'll be ready to leave soon guys..

He won't leave UofL. He has 2 kids enrolled/living in Louisville, they were there even when he was at Arkansas. His family loves KY and he's basically said that WKU was the only job his wife would let him take cause she wanted to be back in KY and she was calling the shots at that time. With that said our only shot might have been in 2013. UofL has a top 5 AD, boosters willing to pay and is now in a power 5 conference, it's sadly a more attractive job right now. I believe he has UofL in the ACC championship game within 1-2 yrs.

Where did Freeze coach? Was he ever at Overton?

You act like he went around sleeping with every random coed. He had a relationship with another grown woman who was an employee not a student. Affairs are morally wrong but it's also not our place to make that judgement. Personal life is perosnal life. Btw I'm also an alum and donor and would have no problem hiring Petrino.

It's a tough position for any coach. Thanks to Fulmer's last couple seasons, the Kiffin mess and Dooley we sunk to the pits of hell. Getting rebuilt from one disaster is tough enough but 3 is horrible.

Tennessee hires on the cheap.

Kiffin
Dooley
CBJ

No offense to the CBJ lovers.

If CBJ doesn't pan out, Tennessee has to open up the wallet and hire an actual gameday coach. CBJ can obviously recruit, but I have my doubts about his being able to manage a top program.

Tennessee is a great job for the right coach. Someone that likes recruiting and can actually put out some decent gameplanning.

I hope that the sunshine crew is right and he just needs more time. It's becoming harder and harder to believe.

We are not a recruiting hot bed like the states of Ga, Al, Tx, La and Fl. The coach has to be a relentless national recruiter. The kids we are recruiting don't remember our glory days and traditions. We have not been a stable program over the past 7 years. Kids don't want to play for a coach to be named later. The edge in facilities, tv time and rabidly supportive fans has been eclipsed over time as other programs have caught up. The SEC is so much more improved top to bottom from when we routinely contended. The Majors rebuild took several years, and this likely will too. Firing Butch and hiring yet another coach would set us back again. Give him time to recruit the right kids to run his system. I expected 5-6 wins this year realistically, 7-8 next year and 9-11 in 2016 provided the top 5 class we have closes and we land some offensive linemen.

I agree. This will take some time and will be worth the wait

Just Win Baby! What's the difference?

The difference is the offense is horrid and we are not willing to make any kind of adjustments. We are locked in on my way or the highway mentality. It might prove better to run something less complicated. But we will never know that because we run the same scheme with players that obviously are not suited for this type of offense.

And how long should we give the staff to implement this new scheme? It's taken a year and a half to get where we are with current one
