Is Stokes Coming Back?

I agree. I see people argue for Hopson saying he's doing great playing over seas. He plays in Israel! If I took a poll I wonder how many people want to leave the US to leave in Israel? Had Hopson stayed he could have been the focal point of a team for the first time, and he really could have helped his draft stock IMO.

Would the poll include ball players or blue collar workers. Huge diff.

Incorrect. If he leaves, he will be drafted. Not sure where, but he definitely will be taken.

Nevermind there are multiple draft reports out there that have him going undrafted. If there was 'no chance' that he does not get drafted then he would at least be listed somewhere on every draft board. He might get drafted late in the 2nd round or he might go undrafted. Both are very reasonable expectations.

I am very pro-Scotty. I think he is undervalued by a majority of our fanbase to a degree.

That said, he got some terrible advice and made a bad choice. Israel would have been there the next year if he hadn't been drafted, AND he would have a degree. Six-figure contracts are nothing to sneeze at, but being 8,000 miles from home in a foreign country (an unstable one at that) wasn't his dream, I'm sure. I hope he hones his skills well enough against other pros, and gets a shot to make the NBA.

His ball handling is what gets him IMHO. He can shot just fine, but his ball handling for a 2 guard is below par. He also isn't a great FT shooter, and disappears at times. I feel bad for him, but no one should have every told him he was a 1st round lock. Terrible advice if true.

It includes anyone. Ball players think over seas and think Spain, France, etc not Israel.

Definitely see what your sayin. I was just thinking through the vacuum mindset of a ballplayer. Since the 5,4,3,2,1 money Bob days in the drive-way/local court/boys club/etc the goal was to play ball for a living. And honestly where they play for most is probably only a detail.

Not that this would apply for all players.

I mean if you told me you were going to pay me 200,000 to play basketball in Israel I'd take it, but it'd be hard to be that far from the States.

Definitely ball-handling. Throw in consistent effort and defense too. If he cleans those things up and I think he'll get a shot.

Good call on the cosistent effort point. He needs those eye blockers the middle school coaches used to use for ball handling drills. Remember the ones you wore like regular glasses. But they had the small plastic plates blocking your vision down. You can only see up and infront of you.

Too little too late maybe, but some middle school somewhere needs to dig through the old box marked basketball stuff and find him a pair of dribbling goggles. :good!:

I'm thinking he is gonna return also has waited a very long time to announce if he were leaving. He doesn't have to announce he is staying to stay but he does have to declare for the draft.

Hopefully Stokes realizes he can make 10 times that much in the NBA if he works on his game next season and becomes a first round pick. 200k wouldn't be enough to get me to live amongst all the unrest in the Middle East.

I never saw anything on his decision. I thought he had to declare by now. Does anybody know?:dunno:

A lot of people didn't think Tobias Harris was ready either.

He's just 20 years and in 26 games(19 starts) with Orlando he's averaging 17.2rebs 8.5rebs 2.1asts 1.4blks 0.9stls on 45.4% from the field, 32.1% from behind the arc and 75.0% from the line.

I want Stokes back but who says he doesn't return only to get Scotty Hopsoned? NBA likes to draft on potential and sometimes the more they see you at the college level, the more your stock drops. So I'm not exactly sure returning is smart and who knows if Martin will help him improve at all. Or maybe he gets injured and tumbles down the board like PJ3 and Sullinger. So many variables and to flat out say the smart choice is to return isn't necessarily true.

There are reasons to stay and reasons to go. Personally, I might go based on potential but that's just me. Lance Stephenson was another 5* recruit and left after his freshman season. He wasn't ready and because of it, he was drafted in the middle of the 2nd round. Now though, he's starting on what will be the #3 seed in the East this season. If you're talented, you'll have a chance to figure it out in the NBA. Being as highly rated as Jarnell Stokes was coming out of high school, he better dominate the college world in his 3rd season or his stock will take a hit and he will fall down the draft boards. Everybody gets drafted on Kentucky based on potential... Daniel Orton has been a nothing. Teague wasn't very good this year. Brandon Knight hasn't lived up to the billing. These guys were all smart to leave asap though. If they had stuck around and didn't dominate, they wouldn't have been drafted where they were. Teague was almost a 2nd round pick as is and Daniel Orton wouldn't be drafted let alone a 1st round pick.

I'll gladly take Stokes back though. It would be nice to actually make the tournament again.

Tobias had a much more well rounded game than Stokes, like an outside shot for instance. Stokes is not a real leaper so he will be bothered by the length in the NBA without some outside game. Not a good enough handle on the ball now to play small forward in the league either. I love Stokes, and hope he stays, but comparing Tobias and Stokes is kind of like apples to oranges.

Well, Stokes IS in class today...if I'd have realized who one of his teachers was I could've settled that one a long time ago lol.
