Is Smart the type of coach to run up the score?

Whenever running up the score is mentioned, I always think back to the 2005 Bama/FL game and watching Prothro break his leg. As long as it’s your backups making big plays, then by all means.....but that still haunts me.

Do I think Kirby runs up the score? Yes, but his starters will be off the field before it gets crazy

Perhaps Richt and McGarrity were trying to show Pruitt their plans for a practice facility on a whiteboard and it's all one big misunderstanding.

Smart has better things to do like gearing up for another national title run than worry about hurting the Vols feelings.

Think he will set most of his starters if it gets out of hand. SEC is a long grinding season.

Do I think Smart will intentionally run up the score? No. I think he will get very vanilla and conservative in the 4th when they are up by 40, yet they will continue to score at will. Their backups will come in and there wont be any drop off in production. Because we are just that bad.

Their backups are better than our starters.

It's about winning and losing on the scoreboard. It's not about margin of victory, which is for gamblers and crybabies. If UGA hangs 100 on us, then more power to them. If we can find a way to win 3-2, I'll be as happy as can be.

We are the University of Tennessee. We should NOT have snowflake fans sitting Indian style in the middle of the room, smacking the floor with all their might, because another team keeps running their offense when up 4 scores.

If you wanna cry about someone running up the score, then go root for UGA and Coach Donnan!

UGA isn’t getting near the national respect Bama is getting. They’re going to want to do to us what Bama did to Ole Miss to make a statement against an in-conference opponent.

Maybe it's just the hangover from the Richt years of being talented and falling flat, but I do not have the confidence that UGA is going to steamroll the Vols like I did last year. The team is highly talented but feels really raw - and we are missing some key starters with experience on the o-line, front seven on defense and our #1 running back was mysteriously absent last week for most of the game with some 'groin' issues. Last week the o-line couldn't get a push against MU when they needed too. And there is not a chance UT gives the ball away 6 times again. I would be sorely disappointed if UGA couldn't find a way to win this game, but I just don't see them winning by a margin close to the spread, it feels like it might be half of that.

If he doesn’t try to obliterate us we should be worried. Nobody in the SEC is going to feel sorry for us and they shouldn’t. This league is about pride and being the best in the country.

Tennessee better wake up and start fighting and clawing back to relevancy. Our fans here are incredible but if they have a similar mind set to our current players, it would explain our current state of “ do they run the score up... how bad do we finish... etc.”

Smart through the AD asked Pruitt to leave UGA, and Pruitt did not want to stay anyways. Tucker was named to replace Pruitt. With that said, Smart would be an idiot to run up the score against us because he has to travel to our place next year.

That’s only an issue if he believes UT will be in a position to do it next year. Kirby hasn’t run up the score on anyone this year anyway. Fromm has played in the fourth quarter once this season and when fields came in the South Carolina game he only threw one pass. Saban usually lets his second qb eat at the end of games, while smart just runs out the clock. Could come back to bite him if Fromm goes down at some point.

Nah....Pruitt tried to start a mutiny. He didn't get along with anyone, but most importantly, he pissed off the AD. That's why he wasn't retained. He tried to get Richt fired and himself installed as the interim HC. That's a fact.

I mean a couple of years ago we had 9 win seasons.... That's pretty decent. We might not of been a Championship team but we did win games. So to say we aren't relevant is a stretch. (We played one SEC game, let's just see what these kids can continue to do)

It's our job to stop them. Don't cry about running up the score, this is big boy football. Our coaches and players aren't making any excuses the fans need to do the same. Sorry KBVol this was meant for hawkeye4588. GBO!!!!!!

Running up the score is a stupid thing to think about.

Defense stops them or they don't. Either way both teams should play for 60 minutes. Whether it's starters or 3rd stringers.

Smart will cover then put in the backups. Their 3rd string is better than our starters and will continue to score. Fields can score TDs on us all day.

Honestly it might do the VOLS a world of good to get blown out by second and third stringers. Show them how far they have to go and if they are so disheartened that they give up, so be it.

Damn I hope our team is not worrying about how many THEY are going to score. I know that's not what the op is asking, we just need to worry about handling what we need to and the score will sort itself out.

And yes, UGA will do everything they can to embarrass us including running up the score.

Prepare yourselves cuz this will be a friggin bloodbath. So will Bama....so will Mizzou....so will Kentucky. Talent? Wisconsin is a consistent national powerhouse and haven't had a top 30 class in over a decade. Its coaching. It may be too early to judge Pruitt...but the early returns are a disaster.

I don’t care if he does or doesn’t. It’s not Kirby’s job to call off the dogs to keep the score down. It’s our players jobs to stop them. Simple as that.

True. I remember Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer getting blamed all the time for running up the score. When your 3rd stringers are better than the oppositions starters....tough sh!+.

As soon as Kirby thinks the game is in hand, he'll go to almost exclusively run and burn the clock. If it gets out of hand, he'll have the walk on QB handing off the the last RB on the depth chart. Kirby is 100% focused on winning the game and running the clock is more of a priority than running up the score.
