Is Smart the type of coach to run up the score?

Big and bad “program”, not “big and bad” team.

I’m quite sure most posters here would argue Tennessee is one of the elite college football programs of all time.

It should, therefore, be beneath you to complain about “running up the score”

I ain't gonna lie. Would love nothing better than to see UT beatdown Georgia, 70 - 0. Ain't gonna happen. Not this year anyway. :)

Even Zeus couldnt fix the problems this UT team has in just a week. Last week was an epic flop against the second worst team in the entire SEC..think about that.

Zeus? Dude, please just stop. Ok, we aren't good. Let's hope we get better.

i know coach majors used to talk about understanding we have to play the same team the following year and to win with class. not sure if current coaches take revenge for humiliation into account from one year to the next.

I look at it more to the point of Tennessee needs to stop them from scoring. When Smart puts in the backups them young men want to score just has bad has the first string, so to me it's stop them if you don't want the score to look bad.

We all know we have a huge spread for Saturday's game but I am still thinking Tennessee will cover because Smart is a Saban disciple and Saban is really good about calling off the dogs in a mismatch. For evidence Saban is a little over 54% lifetime in covering the spread but only 33% when the spread is over 35 points. I think that is one reason so many coaches respect Saban when they should resent his success. In fact, I am fairly confident that Saban will do his best not to humiliate Pruitt considering their previous relationship and Saban's history of pulling back when the lead gets substantial. My only concern with Smart is I have heard he and Pruitt did not get along so if this becomes a sibling rivalry type thing Smart might take a lead and run with it.

One other thing, I wonder if our guys play with a chip on their shoulder. Everyone, especially in the media, have written them off as inferior to everyone else in the SEC. I think this either makes them quit kind of like we saw against Florida if they get down early or whips them into proving everyone wrong. I am hoping for the latter of course.

I don't think Kirby will ever run the score up. He had a chance to vs USCe and Mizzou and took a knee both times. Most SEC HCs are smart enough to know not to run scores up.

Well you can look at it one of two ways...

1. Unless they take a knee the whole second half, they most likely will have to run up the score.

2. Style points can matter to get in to the cfp. He.cant have a bad uf team beat the crap out of us, just to barely beat up.

Id look for a lot of point versus very few points.

Don't agree with this. Depends on how they win. UT fumbled that game away. If Georgia beats UT by 3 scores with no UT turnovers, that's style points IMO.

He should. It's up to our players to have the pride and toughness to fight back. Him taking it easy on us does us no favors. Hopefully some of our young guys will come to the front and show some potential

Rather than worry about what the other team might do to run up the score, I'd rather worry about what our team is going to do to stop them. Georgia is not responsible for how many points they score. We are.

In 1981 UT-0, UGA-44. UT was a much better team then than this current squad. UGA had Hershel Walker.
I feel like another one of these type of beat downs is coming and probably by UGA, Bama and possibly Auburn. Hope I'm wrong.

I told someone today I think we give up 130 points over the next three games.

He will eventually play the second and third stringers but they want to show what they can do also. Alabama's backups are probably 98% as good as the starters. So yea, it's going to be ugly; You can count on it.

We recruit GA more than any other state. You think they would invoke the Mercy Rule against us? Not just No, but Heck No! Even their 3rd team beats our 1st team. Wish there was a Mercy Rule to use. If you have Rosary Beads, you better get them out for the next month. Hope our guys stand up tall.

I don't expect Kirby to run up the score against the Vols. I think he respects other HC's to much in the SEC to purposely run up the score.

In the SC game we put in our walk-on QB and our white walkon RB and third string OL. We would have run up the score if we wanted to but didn't and I don't see CKS running up the score against a first year HC who is learning the ropes just like he was a few years ago.

To be honest I don't even see any benefit in running up the score in recruiting. UGA and the Vols really aren't competing for the same recruits this cycle. USC is really the only team in the East fighting UGA for the same recruits on the trail right now.

Good luck in the game, here's to both teams leaving the game with no major injuries.

Sadly, UGA will cover the 51 point over with their side of the scoreboard.

Wish it was different...

Am I the only one then that thinks we can cover? The spread is up to 33 now. That is pretty big. If we do not self destruct and can correct the butter fingers of our players I would like to think we can cover.

Hawk, you might not be the only one who thinks we cover, but that is a very small group you are in currently. I am not even sure we cover the 33 by the end of the first half. I hate to say that, but I could see us being down by 35 or more at the half. That is a scary thought, but possible. We better play our best, most complete game of the season to hold the below 50.

Here in Illinois high school football has a running clock when a team gets up by 40. Maybe we should lobby for that rule in the SEC.
