Is Smart the type of coach to run up the score?

"What is this deal that they do not like each other? What evidence is there of it? "

My understanding is they were close at one time. Pruitt was there for the birth of Smart's kids. Then Smart did not want him when he went to UGA and I think it put a strain on their relationship.

I don't think this is true. Smart had nothing to do with Pruitt not staying at UGA. After what went on in 2015 with Pruitt and Richt, which affected the rest of the staff, some of whom were Richt guys and some Pruitt guys, the UGA administration made the determination that Pruitt could not be retained.

If there is bad blood between Pruitt and Smart (which I am not aware of), it is definitely not due to Pruitt not remaining at UGA when Kirby became HC, because it was not his decision as to whether or not Pruitt would be retained.

One other thing, I wonder if our guys play with a chip on their shoulder. Everyone, especially in the media, have written them off as inferior to everyone else in the SEC. I think this either makes them quit kind of like we saw against Florida if they get down early or whips them into proving everyone wrong. I am hoping for the latter of course.

Ditto. But the flip side to all of this is that Tennessee could very well become The SEC Team That NOONE Wants To Lose To For Fear Of Being Mercilessly Mocked For Having Lost To Tennessee, and so then puts forth Herculean efforts to avoid becoming that team.

Yeah, can you imagine the first SEC that loses to UT? They won't be able to live it down.

Am I the only one then that thinks we can cover? The spread is up to 33 now. That is pretty big. If we do not self destruct and can correct the butter fingers of our players I would like to think we can cover.

Depends. If it is 45-0 late in the fourth quarter, I am sure he would pull the starters to put the backups in. However, their backups are likely on par with our first string so it won't matter.

The bad blood that is referenced here actually was between Pruitt and the UGA AD, McGarrity. When McGarrity hired Smart, he supposedly told him that he could not allow Pruitt to be retained, the way he was acting....Pruitt allegedly challenged Richt to a fist-fight in Richt's front yard and went into a closed-door meeting with McGarrity and cussed him out, too, for good measure. That's how pissed off Pruitt was after the 2015 UF/UGA game. I don't believe there's any bad blood between Pruitt and Smart.

He doesn't have to try and run up the score, it will happen naturally and very organic

On another note, Kirby has been giving the back-ups extensive playing time when a game gets out of hand. Against South Carolina, Fromm was out of the game by the middle of the third quarter and the #3 QB was in the game in the middle of the 4th....He was also playing a #4 RB in the 4th qtr., and all back-ups on the o-line. The #2 defense was in the entire 4th quarter, as well....That's how S. Carolina made the final score 41-17, instead of 41-10. He also did nothing but call running plays and only pass to keep possession and keep the clock moving the whole 4th qtr.

Did you not see last years game? He may put in 2nd and 3rd string, but he's going to play his game plan on every down.

Kirby stays focused on his plan ... and I believe this is exactly what he will do. He is more concerned about experience than running up any score. Also when someone does run up the score the game gets a little nastier and increases the chance of injury. For this reason, UT covers.

I work with a lot of UGA fans and boosters. They absolutely despise Pruitt.

Fran Tarkenton was quoted as saying Pruitt brought a disruptive culture and that there was a lack of respect involved. He said that he would work well with Saban because Saban would not let an assistsnt question who is is.

Even Zeus couldnt fix the problems this UT team has in just a week. Last week was an epic flop against the second worst team in the entire SEC..think about that.

That is spot-on.

I think GA has bigger fish to fry than expending energy to embarrass TN. They can put up 50 with reasonable effort and avoid excessive exposure to injury. Obviously winning is paramount. The whiteboard is quivering with trepidation.

With the lack of effort some of the secondary played with against Florida, it will not matter if it’s their first string or walk-ons. What happened to diving for an opponent? I’ve seen countless times our players have been stride for stride with the runner and our players would keep running and not dive for them. I know several touchdowns could have been stopped.

Now we are worried whether or not they will run up the score. If our players don’t have enough pride and heart not to give up 50+ points then they have no one to blame but themselves
Most of our players were recruited to play a 4-3 defense and a spread offense based on zone blocking. The staff has made a decision that they are willing to accept more losses this year to try and coach the younger players in the system that they hope they will be able to run successfully in the future, assuming they can recruit elite prospects it will require to pound through SEC defenses, jam elite receivers in man coverage, and create holes on the pass rush. Some of this year's losses are on the staff as they are the ones who've decided not to scheme to the strengths of their roster. If they win a bunch of games in the next couple of seasons, they will look like geniuses. If not, the coffin lid will close a bit sooner.

In this time of football playoffs teams like to score all they can win by as big a margin as they can. I see no problem with it hopefully that will be what Pruitt will do if we ever get in that position to be a team that can.

That was more true during the BCS era. I don't think that holds much water now with the selection committee IMO.
