Any thoughts?

that's good, but i would not pick on too many big boys, not just yet anyway. i would try to have 2 or 3 tough series, but not any more than that

What better way to prepare for the SEC! Doesn't get any tougher than that.

3rd week of the season and 2 weeks prior to SEC play.

Not that it matters, but we will not win a game against that competition. Changing coaches will have little impact on the quality of play on the field until we transition from the talent that CTR left us. I am sure we will play hard and be very well coached but pitching, hitting, fielding will still not be very good imo.

It's that Rome thing.

We might sneak up on Houston or Texas Tech but don't think we can play with the others.

I'm not saying we will be competing for Omaha any time soon, but I think you will see a significant difference next season. This team will go to Hoover. Maybe nothing more, but they will at least make it to Hoover.

On paper, next year's team looks worse than this year's team.

The last two Vol bb coaches left the cupboard bare: Raleigh recruited a few good players but managed to either run them off or fail to develop talent. Things will change under CDS. I'm glad he's gotten us in a challenging tournament. The SEC has proven to be the best baseball conference hands-down.

I like the Serrano hire, am excited for the future, but I am a little bit skeptical about the All-Star staff that's being put in place mostly because of the last time that happened to UT athletics. As long as that doesn't happen, things will be good for the BaseVols.

Regarding the Houston College Classic, don't forget that Raleigh went 1-2 in that tournament in 2008, beating Texas, losing 7-3 to Texas Tech and 2-0 against Oklahoma. Not a bad showing down there.

Good point about 2008. Raleigh didn't schedule that tourney, nor did CDS this year.

On paper, South Carolina has no business being on the same field as Florida. Its so exciting that paper means very little in baseball. I cannot wait to see Serrano prove that all Raleigh's excuses were completely ridiculous.

Yikes. Easy now. SC has players. Obviously my statement was a strong exaggeration. My point is that Florida has the edge in every talent category, most by a long way. SC just plays the game the right way, has fantastic leadership, and never gives up. What they lack on paper they more than make up for with their heart and unwillingness to quit.

I love this university. I love the kids. I am beyond ecstatic to see baseball on the road back to relevance in Knoxville. Can't we all just get along? :)

I wasn't picking a fight. Only making an observation.

March 2-4 are the dates for the Houston Classic.

Need to schedule a TON of away games early in the season. Serrano should try to get the Vols in every tourney in the west/southwest he can. Many, many springs you just can't play ball (or practice) in Knoxville on any dependable schedule. That's always been a problem that is never mentioned as a condition that affects play...but is real.

Like one coach who had come to E. Tn. from New Mexico said to me once. He said he didn't realize he needed to set alternate dates for anything scheduled outside until some of the other coaches told him. He never had to before. He also said that watching for unscheduled "good" days was important, to call his people in the morning for a practice that same day.

Seems like a long shot, but CSF had a pretty good thing going with Hawaii, that would be great for the kids. It will be interesting to see the early season schedule, CSF's was brutal with USC, TCU, UNC, LSU, ASU, etc...

I would love to see the Vols play the toughest schedule in the country next year, get the dog crap beat out of them, and have that experience for 2013. Playing the best teams game in and game out seems to pay off the most for teams when it comes to baseball. Seeing teams like Texas, Florida, FSU, Vandy, USC, TCU, etc consistenly will do nothing but make this team better. 92+ is much easier to hit when you see it more than three times a month. I have complete faith Serrano and co. will have this team turned around by year 2. All Vol fans should be excited for the future of UT baseball.

Cali Is alot closer to Hawaii than Tennessee. Would like to see it happen though.

I agree, I mean what's the point of spending a month or two with cupcakes when you eventually need to beat Vandy, SC and UF. It may not be pretty, but you're prepared.
