Is our defense close to Alabama’s?

We’ve looked good so far on defense. But to win this weekend, I think we’ll need a defense that can hold Florida to under 30 points. Which would mean defending them at least as good as Alabama can.

If our offense can perform as well as Alabama’s, then we have a shot. And considering the let down Florida will be coming off of having lost to Alabama after such a hard fought effort, I believe it could be possible.

That's a nice, logical post. Let me summarize: IF UT's defense and offense both perform as well as Alabama's defense and offense, then UT has a shot of beating Florida (since Alabama just beat them). Thanks for stating the obvious.

To answer the question posed in the title of your post - No. UT's defense is nowhere near as good as Alabama's. Neither is our offense.

There is zero way that you’re this dumb. This has to be a troll post. We’re not remotely close to Bama’s third team defense right now. We’ve played three nobodies and lost to one of them.

We are going to find out this week how good our D is. I have been pleasantly surprised so far with the DL.

I think with or Defense formation we can match speed and if they can keep getting interceptions and play smart we could surprise some teams.

UT's D is not as good as Bama's.

If we're going to place hope in anything then it has to be matchups. In particular, can UT's 3 deep, "no name" defensive line challenge UF's run game. If their OL's get to the second level consistently... it is going to be a long day trying to stop their run game. If however UT's DL can change the LOS and disrupt their run game then that gives the Vols a chance and forces UF to put more on their QB than they likely want to.

PS- UT has to hit throws over the top and has to score points early. The Vols need to pressure UF to get impatient and try to throw more if possible.

All this said... UT's D may still not be able to stop them. But I think it is the Vols' best shot.

Our defense is no where near Alabama’s level.

We will know more after this weekend. After this game you should be able to answer your own question.

Our starters are good but we do not have any depth. That is going to catch up to us in SEC play like it did against Pittsburgh.

This really kills me. I specifically stated I was just answering the other guys faulty numbers. In fact, I said, "Now, I in no way think this means our defense is as good as Alabama's; it's just a response to someone dismissing the OP's question with faulty stats. Obviously, your numbers should look pretty good after playing two high school teams in your first three games." And I said it so anyone who actually read the words would know that I didn't think the numbers meant anything beyond showing we are playing better than expected on defense. My stats aren't faulty; they're just stats. My "analysis" is that last paragraph, which you didn't comment on at all. So, no, my analysis isn't flawed. These numbers mean very little for comparing our defense to Alabama's, just as they did for the post I was answering; and I didn't suggest they did. There won't be any actual comparisons to be made until well into the SEC season, and even then there are all sorts of extenuating factors.
Nope...read your post again and it still sounds like hash browns at Waffle House, “scattered and covered with cheese”. I think comparing UT and Bama at this point in the season is silly except to say UT is playing like a bottom half team in the league and Bama is playing like one of the top teams in the nation. And I am a VFL who can’t wait to see Bama fall from their thrown. I was there behind The Bear when we finally ended an 11 game losing streak in 1982. I hope we beat Florida and Bama and those would be major upsets,

So you’re saying if our offense and our defense play as good as Alabama we can win? 🤔Can’t argue with that.🤷🏻‍♂️
