sorry to blow up like that guys, but things like that really get under my skin. people need to think before they speak

Crompton should not turn in his pads. He hasn't quit yet. He may not ever get it but I don't have a problem with him personally.

yeah crompton has had his chances.

jc was 86/167 for 889 yds, LNG pass 63 yds, 4 tds 5 ints last year. so far this year hes 34/54 for 326 yds LNG pass for 28 yds, 5 tds 5 ints. the guy has 30 tds and 30 ints in his career.

ns was 63/ 130 for 840 yds, LNG pass 60 yds, 4 tds 3 ints last year. 4/4 44yds vs wku this year.

ns couldn't do any worst. he deserves a shot.

He must be really bad in practice if he can't beat out crompton, who is probably the worst QB in the SEC.

Probably? I think he's removed all doubt. It sucks that the only other QBs we have right now are even worse though...

Ok maybe not turn in his pads, but take his spot at the end of the bench would be sufficient

I think that day will be coming soon. I am just going to let it run it's course. We are going to win by running the ball and playing defense. The QB just needs to be able to complete a few balls and not turn it over. We'll see how it goes. Crompton's goal should be simply no interceptions. Get the visions a heroics out of his system and manage the game.

I say sept 20, kiffin will inform him that Nick Stephens will be the starter

Yes, he is that bad. He couldn't beat out Crompton and that says everything.

Not entirely correct. Some people look better in practice, some people look better in a game situation.

CLK has never seen Stephens in a tight game situation (that wouldn't apply to the few minutes of mop-up vs. WKU).

Guys I know we as fans want more from this team this year but, Crompton will more then likely be our guy all year for a reason. If Stephens were to start and shine where does that leave us on QB recruits? CLK made the point quiet clear that he will not have a hook out ready to pull Crompton when he makes mistakes. The big picture is to show these top QB recruits how inept we are at the QB position and get us a QB like Barkley for USC.

I think that could backfire if he doesn't improve. We need to show we can develop a QB no matter which one it is.

Nick Stephens needs to start. Crompton has no business playing, if the QB competition was as "close" as he said he needs to let actual game performance be the deciding factor.

1. David Cutcliffe one of the greatest QB coaches in the world, Peyton, Eli, making Ainge and Tee good...basically thought Jon Crompton was worth less than a truck full of used tampons. Crompton's Dad has said many times that Jon and David did not get along. I wonder why? He never thought Crompton was QB material and Coleman was his going to be his guy had he stayed.

2. Dave Clawson did not want to start Crompton. Fulmer made him name Crompton the starter even though Dave did not want to. This is not conjecture there are many of those who are close to the program and Clawson who said as much. When someone asked Clawson what the first thing the new OC at UT should do he said name BJ starting QB.

So NO, besides Fulmer no one on staff including 2 of the 3 offensive coordinators Crompton has played under thought he was worth a damn. Nick Stephens belongs behind center. I don't care who you are you turn the ball over 5 times (yes I'm counting the offsides interception) miss a wide open Gerald Jones for a touchdown and try to hit Cottam instead of Luke Stocker, how do you miss Luke Stocker when he shook my hand at the Vol Walk he blocked out the sun...he's huge) YOU DON'T PLAY. Period.

I'm sure several posters have alluded to it already. Crompton must be one of those "special" head cases. He must perform well in practice and work his ass off. However, when it comes to a Big game situation he is your classic choke artist. I have no idea what Stephens is like on practice days and have no idea how he is in game situations, aside from last yr. I only know it won't hurt to see Stephens take a series or two. We are so deficient at QB it is unbelievable. Will someone please keep us posted whether or not Stephens works with the first teamers this week at practice. I admire Kiffin for sticking with Crompton, but enough is enough. There comes a time when you cut your losses. I don't think Crompton is or ever will be D-1 QB material. But again, what do I know?

Does anyone think that Kiffin won't play Stephens because he want Bray to start next year? And he feels as if stephens does good kiffin would have to start him over Bray? Just a thought. I personally dont think this is the case but what do ya'll think?

I think the reason that Kiffin is sticking up for Crompton is because we have Florida this week and Crompton does need to know that somebody believes in him. Even if Kiffin doesn't really, isnt that what's best for Cromptons mental state?

It would be better to bring stevens in for the Ohio game. IMO

that Kiffin won't even consider playing him. Nobody expected the Vols to dominate this year. BUT everyone will expect some improvements by next year. Why not let Stephens play and possibly learn how to get better so next year he will be ready.

Crompton continually chokes under pressure.
Our swiss cheese oline didn't help but 3 ints will get you beat almost every time.

He's was 100% outplayed by a redshirt freshman. (Prince)

Edit Thread Stephens. Sorry so pissed I can't type.
If I were CLK, I'd at the very least go into the game and let both JC and NS both know that he will go into a evaluation by rotation, just like in Preseason games in the NFL...you play the starter a certain number of series and then the back up. I wouldn't worry too much about damaging Crompton's fragile mindset...he's been coddled enough.

Instead of having JC fear he's going to get yanked for the slightest mistake, I'd just let him know that... "I'm going to let each of you play a few series, before rotating the other guy in. We have to find out who's going to show up on game day. If you make a mistake or two, shake it off because that is part of our evaluation, how you handle adversity. I know you will make mistakes, but whoever shows some tenacity and poise will be the starter.

Whoever handles the pressure and adversity, and gets the hot hand gets to play the rest of the game. This evaluation by rotation will last for a few games until I've determined who the best leader of this team is. Right now, I don't know."
