Is Neyland really this bad??

Since I'm deep in the heart of bammer land, I have this discussion often with my friends, coworkers, etc. I've been to every sec east stadium and every west except for ole miss and A&M. Neyland and Florida are probably my favorite gameday experiences, followed by auburn and bama. Most of my Alabama friends will say Alabama is number one, but even some of them concede the title to neyland. Te auburn fans that I know who've been to neyland all say that it's their favorite gameday experience. While it is subjective, most people I know love neyland just as much, if not more, than their home field. Which is telling in the SEC.

Good insight, thanks! That's what I was expecting.

I've only been to Bama & Vandy as away games( well Vandy was more like a home away from home) but plan on going to A&M this year... But Bama was a very good atmosphere, easy to find parking, and not a bad walk.A lot of Bama fans were saying they have never been as tired as walking back to their cars as they were in Knoxville after waking up the Hill, that's why I've been taking the golf carts from University Commons to the torchbearer every week this year. Seating was very tight, almost took away from the experience, traffic absolutely sucked worse than anything I've seen, a lot worse than Cumberland Ave after construction started. So I'm not seeing how the rankings work. But I will definitely go back to see a game in T Town again, was treated well, and had a good time even though the game didn't work out, but it's not Neyland to me.

If they wanted free parking, had to trek a mile to Neyland, hike up a mountainous incline to the upper deck, then had to squeeze a fat butt in a narrow seat... then get up, go down and wait in line for their nachos, they might've had some issues.

But it's a beautiful setting, an unparalleled gameday experience and a piece of history, and there's nothing like it on a fall Saturday afternoon. UT fans love it. If you're not a UT fan, and don't love it, then don't come. Somebody else will be happy to take your ticket.

I've always considered "The Pride" to be elite.

Am I wrong?

I took art appreciation in school, not music, maybe I'm just not learned enough.

Go Vols!

I'm not really a music critic either, but WCU has a special band. The Pride of the Mountains has about 500 members vs. POTSL 300ish.

They have been voted top 5 in US many times, lead band at Macy's parade, etc. They do unique stuff like having a small rock band back them up. They're worth going to a game for just to see them. So big they take up the whole field and have 3 drum majors.

Please. This is a moronic list. I'll stick with SEC ratings and tell you that anyone who lists UF and SC above Neyland is an idiot.

The swamp is a dump full of obnoxious fans in a hot, humid, crappy town with literally no decent places nearby to hang out before or after a game. The concessions suck (like most college stadiums), unless you are into dried-out turkey legs. Also, bear in mind you are two hours from the beach, the nearest "attraction," unless you are into trucker strip clubs or boiled peanuts.

Williams-Brice has a bunch of surrounding parking. That's the end of its positives. It's like frickin' 3 miles from campus, has a dull/cold feel, and they still play Darude, for goodness sakes.

I feel the only thing people can truly gripe Neyland for is the claustrophobic seating. We'd all be lying if we tried to dispute that. I'm not a very big guy and I feel like I'm always having my shoulders caved in.

If they were to.....say.......subtract a seat from each row then I think people would be more happy overall, but it'll never happen.

I don't believe I've ever been impressed with the roominess of any bleacher seating. The reserved seat cushions and backs are nice though to preserve your allotted space in Neyland. I would guess other stadiums do the same.

One of the best things about Neylsnd is the walk. So much to take in as you go.

Our nation of lazy fat asses need it. Everyone overweight should be required to park in Tyson Park and walk.

It put USCJr 35 spots ahead of Neyland. Dumb list is dumb. USCjr was one of the worst game day experiences I've seen on any level. Just turrible...

In all honesty, they've really upgraded the tailgating atmosphere around Williams-Bruce and it's a good place to watch a game. But you're right that it's still out in a huge field without much around it. If you don't bring food and drink, you're screwed.

Neyland has great atmosphere and is an incredible spectacle, but it's not great if you're looking for any sort of modern stadium amenity beyond a jumbotron. I'm not that big on that stuff, but if you're looking for comfort, decent restrooms and concessions, Neyland won't win many awards.

To be fair though, there aren't many college stadiums where you're going to get an NFL experience.

Speaking of Neyland, I was just there last week and the turf on the sidelines was toast and the rest of the field was pretty lumpy. That is my only concern about our stadium.

And FYI, I could care less if others like our Shrine to the Pigskin - it's our home and we love it. And only other stadium that I have attended a game at that had the lure of Neyland is the Washington Huskies stadium with views of Union Bay.

Amenities can make a difference. UK added two decks where you can eat at a buffet, grab snacks and a glass of bourbon and plop down in padded seats between the 35s. Their football may be awful, but the game experience was top notch. :)

It is clear you have never been invited to a party in a cockaboose. IMO, the ultimate tailgating experience. However, once you enter the stadium, no comparison to Neyland.

We have our own "cockabooses." They just happen to be far cooler and float, tying together to form one of the most unique tailgating experiences in the nation.

Williams Bryce sucks. it's in the middle of an industrial park. i tail gated in between two tractor trailers.

everything immediatley around the stadium is nice, and the stadium itself is fine. but the atmosphere and general environment around the stadium...meh.

i've had more fun in Starkville MS.

Blue Lion Sports ranks Neyland #2 only behind the big house (Michigan).

I have been at more than a dozen games at Ohio Stadium (went to grad school there), three games at the big house, once at Penn State and at least once to most of the other SEC stadium. Game day experience at Neyland is better than all the above.

Holy crap who was the moron that made that list? UT and Memphis 10 spots apart...retarded.

BTW, UCF belongs in the Top 25 at least. Great place to see a game.

I was at the WCU game. Why didn't they bring a band?

The guy that wrote the article is a Big Ten homer. Still upset that Vols been kicking their butts last couple years. What a joke!
