i think CBS sports reported earlier monte and orgy are coming. i really think monte has done all he wants to do except coach with his son. which this is realistically his last chance to do so.

Hi, all. Just had to say that I think bringing Monte in would be the dream scenario. The guy is an incredible coach. What he has accomplished in his career is really amazing IMHO. I am not holding my breath that he will follow his son to Knoxville, but I would be much more confident about the hire if that turns out to be the case. I have faith that Lane will be a good coach, don't get me wrong. However, I honestly believe the Vols would enjoy much more success much earlier should that be the case.

While I can't imagine that money will factor majorly into his decision, I would be surprised if we hear anything concrete on him being a part of the staff until January. I, for one, will be ecstatic if he is a DC here next season.

Go Vols!

If the bucs go out early in the playoffs this year, monte kiffin will probably get fired. Monte wants a safe job with less work and pressure, so working for his son as DC at UT makes sense. His job will be safe for as long as he wants it. Plus, UT can probably pay him about $800K to $1 mil, so he will not take a big paycut.

For a million dollars less a year?

At 69, I'd wager that time with his son and grandchildren is more valuable than some extra coin.

Secondly, if it's true that Lane's deal is worth approx. 2 mil/year, then there's plenty of money left to get a fair deal done for Monte.

How do we know that once Hambone found out Gruden did not want the job, that Hambone and Gruden discussed if he had any objection reuniting Monte with his son Lane in Knoxville if we hired Lane?

Hey, if it takes an old dude looking death in the face to get a kick ass defensive coordinator, that works for me.

It worked for us in 1985, when Johnny managed to bring Ken Donahue back to town.

Of course, Johnny threw him under the bus three years later to save his own butt, but it did get us an SEC championship we had no business winning.

The 1985 defense was one of the best in recent history.

+21 in takeaways during the regular season.

Monte has more than one son in coaching. I'd say another opportunity (to work with/for a son) will come up after his NFL career ends.

He is gonna be drawing some kind of NFL retirement check, to go along with his college job, Matthews and Barnhardt were talking about this the other day

Monty made 1.5 million in 2005. I don't see him walking away from that to be an DC in college for ~400k. Cutcliffe made 340k his last season as OC at UT.

Yeah but I look at it as Fulmer was making insane money or what not. We could pay Monty 1 mil if he wanted it.

We're paying Lane pennies if the 2 million number actually pans out...we can afford to pay Monte whatever he wants....but I still don't think he comes...

I agree 2 million probably leaves some funds to work with. I am not a traditionalist but working with his son may be important. So money may not be an issue.:whistling:

I think if Monte does come that kind of takes away some of the risk. Makes me wonder if thats why Hamilton made the deal. He knows pops comes he wouldn't let sonny boy go too far over the top and do anything stupid. May not be the case, its just a thought.

He will get pension and pay if he leaves. So I think the money is closer then some realize.
