Is Mike Norvell a "Google" coach?

This rationale is what Clay Travis calls mosquito dick thinking and frankly its just dumb. Regardless of what you may want to believe, Tennessee is a big time job. We are not some mid major program with little to offer a coach. Get real. You never know what big time winning coach would take the job until you try. Stop thinking small time.

Regardless of what you may want to believe, our program doesn't have the luster it once had and it is very unusual to see a coach that is succeeding at a P5 school leave for another. Of course we should shoot our shot but it also pays to consider the alternatives

If Mike can put a product on the field that resembles a real football team recruits will love the system and the publicity that comes along with it....players just want a shot at the NFL.....NOW DO YOU GUESS JOSH MALONE KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT WHEN HE GOT OUT EARLY...he knew what the offense was going to be like his last year....

If any coach came to Tennessee and put a product on the field that can't score touchdowns and can't defend then that coach is going to get torched rather quickly....and the criticism will be unrelenting.....so the coaches and their families know how ugly it can get.....I doubt any P5 coaches that are winning now stepping into that role

I'm afraid Norvell may be still seeing some success left from Fuentes.

Butch following Kelly definitely shows that can be something to be wary of.

I like that Campbell and Frost have turned around programs that we're historically down very quickly.

Plus Campbell has shown he can defeat top 10 teams like Oklahoma, so he can get his players to play above their ranking.

Fuente didn’t leave a loaded team. Paxton Lynch declared and a lot of talent graduated. Norvell landed Ferguson and got him up to speed in nanoseconds and has higher rated recruiting classes than Fuente. And he’s coached his kids up to a defeat of a top 25 (at the time) UCLA and one defeat at the hands of a decent Scott Frost UCF team. That’s above their ranking.

Screw luster. If Tennessee offers the right contract and the right budget to get a staff in, the luster is restored as if you took your old car to the pimp my ride guys. If they quit giving some of the penny pinching clowns on the hill a voice, this program can get out of the rut.

Quit letting your favorite sports writer or commentator think for you. They are worthless, and you can choose not to be.

Yes Arkansas is his dream job. He grew up a hog fan, played at UCA, his wife is from Ft Smith (45 minutes from fayetteville) all her family lives there with the exception of her brother and his family. They live in Fayetteville. And then there is the fact Mike and Maria own a house on Beaver Lake already, that is about 15 miles from the UA campus.

I'd say he would love to have the Hog job.

I didn't consider Butch a Google coach to be honest. I knew who he was. I knew him because we had throttled him in Neyland 1 year prior.

I know some schools that would stand on their heads to get Mike Norvell.

....um, he already has. Problem for Vol fans is that its almost 400 miles due West of Knoxville, plays in a G5 conference, has 1/10th the athletic budget and facilities of UT, and would curb stomp this years Vols. But you coaching "experts" keeping looking down at the next Urban Meyer.

OP,

Yes the Memphis coach that has done well for 1 season is a "Google coach". If we're going that far down the list then God help us.

What I was saying is ""if Mike can put a team of Tennessee Vols"" on the field...sorry I did not make it clear...
The ""you coaching experts"" was uncalled for.
Maybe you want to check out some of my previous post.

As for my opinion I think Mike brings a lot of energy and runs a high powered offense...and he actually has receivers that run patterns and catch the ball....

So you don't think Mike isn't going to be one of the most sought after Replacement coaches as this season ends....

If we can't get a guy like Patterson, Norvell and Frost are great options imo. I think Frost is better but would be fine with either

Norvell isn't a bad coach, like many believe. We're all just scared of another Butch (taking over a program that another coach built), but the argument can be made that Norvell has somewhat elevated it. The Cincy program was still solid under Butch, but it slipped slightly.

I am by no means making an argument that I want Norvell as head coach. There are more proven options. However, as a person that has watched him closely the last two years, he's going to win wherever he goes.

If all I have read today is anywhere near true then I would expect Mike Norvell could very well end up being a viable candidate for the Tennessee job....
