I dont know guys, I am really starting to worry and wonder about this guy. He shows no flashes of being a superstar. Hell, he barely gets the ball thrown to him! This guy had the making of another Alshon Jeffery, but something has happened and its very alarming. Do they not know how to use him? Is he simply underachieving. This guy should be lighting up secondaries..that is the kind of expectations that comes with being a 5 star blue chip recruit! Hell, hes not even a poor man Robert Meachem at this point!

Am I being too harsh and rash, or do I have a valid point?

The announcers last week said more than once that the UT receivers have to make plays instead of waiting for the QB to make the perfect pass...

I agree.

We have all sorts of talent at the WR position and all are underachieving. If it was just him, I would say it is a Croom problem. But, because it is not just him, I would have to say the problem is elsewhere.

It's hard to underachieve or overachieve when you get almost no targets. I agree with the statement above about the WR's needing to get open and make plays, but at the same time I don't believe Butch trusts Dobbs as much as we would like to think. He opened up the passing game far more under Dormady in the second half, and in the first three games he has thrown the ball farther then 8-10 yards an estimated 5 times or so I would say. Part of North's absence can be blamed on the questionable play-calling. Not all of it though.

Was open for another Td Saturday but Dobbs gunned it over his head by 6 ft. He has been open several but Dobbs hasn't even looked his way. I am not sure the problem but we need to get the ball in the hands of our Wr's.

WR is the diva position of football. If they know there is no chance of getting the ball they are not working near as hard to get open.

IMO Dobbs' skill set doesn't translate well with bigger, taller receivers. Due to his limitations as far as accuracy and touch w/ deep throws, he tends to target the faster, quicker WRs on shorter throws (i.e. Pig was his favorite WR last season).

Worley had a great connection with North because he had nice accuracy and touch on longer down-the-field throws. There were a lot of high-point catches that North caught from Worley where it was a 50/50 ball, but placed right where North had the ability to go up and get it. Dobbs hasn't proven to have that type of touch/accuracy on a consistent basis.

Obviously, the offensive philosophy and approach is dictated by the "specialties" and talents of each QB.

I think North would probably excel more with QD at the helm. Not saying QD should be the starter, but he seems to have a more "live" arm and more potential with the deeper throws - which would obviously mesh well with North's strengths.

My 2 cents.

Through the first two years Marquez North has more catches than Meachem did. Both battled injuries and Meachem blossomed his Junior year. Hopefully North will do the same.

Several times it seemed to me that North was timid about going after the ball. I believe the biggest problem is protection. The quarterback is not getting time enough for the routes to be run. I would like to see more of Dormandy.

If Tenn has trouble running the ball maybe they will give QD some plays at quarterback or the wildcat.

Meachem got a new position coach. Say what you will about Trooper, but he put Meachem in the pros. Dude couldn't catch a cold before Troop.

Shame Troop was such a divisive person, he was an excellent position coach.

Not sure North will see a new coach in his time here

Preston Williams is the new Marquez North.

I said this on another thread, i think the staff has moved on from these underachieving upperclassmen. They are gonna start focusing on our young hungry receivers that want it like JJ and Preston. I could care less about them as well at this point. Croom, North, even Pig doing nothing this year so far. Make room for the young guns, you saw what Preston is gonna be doing for the rest of the year in the WCU game.
