Is Leach still in the running since Fulmer is AD now?

It will be apparent if TN now has an administration in place that is truly committed to the success of Tennessee Football. If that is the case, Mike Leach will soon be announced as the next HC providing reports that was willing to take the job are accurate (and is still willing). He is not only the best coach that would accept, but I believe the best coach available period. If someone like Kevin Steele is hired, it will be indisputable that there are other motivations influencing this coaching hire.

Like avoiding locking students in a shed-type controversies? Latest is Fuente and Patterson. While I'd love to take Fuente from Tech, I prefer Patterson, who runs a similar offense to Leach.

He wasn’t locked in and it wasn’t a shed like you’re thinking of.

But sure.

I don't think a bad decision made eight years ago should eliminate Leach from consideration. As far as I know, he's had no major issues since. If Fuente or Patterson are realistic possibilities, I'm all for pursuing them.

I am surprised that nobody has addressed the fact that a writer with either/or penned an article today titled Congrats Vols! You are now the biggest joke in all of sports. Not just CFB; ALL of sports!

Yep. If we hire anyone worse than Leach, Fulmer has proven he is a bad AD.

So.. do you think Phillip Fulmer would hire Mike Leach? I wish he would, but I find that hard to believe he finds Mike Leach “a good fit” for the University.

Bet he goes back to the good ole boys club to grab a coach. Leach should be the floor now.

I do sincerely wish we could get far away from the moral judgments that people are making in this entire coaching hire process. There are about nine million of these threads where someone claims that “x” is the best coach and if the school cared about Tennessee at all, he would be immediately hired. If the proposed candidate is not hired, the administration is either on the take or doesn’t care about the team. There are about 30 coaches that people could legitimately disagree about with some liking and others not. To brand people as disloyal because they evaluate the coach differently seems counterproductive and feeds into the image that Tennessee fans are just unrealistic at best and crazy at worst.

Fulmer would promote Hoke before he considers Leach.

No, I don't think he would. That's why I'm not in favor of him being AD. His #1 priority should be acquiring the coach that will produce the most wins for TN, not the guy that best fits his idea of what a coach should be.

Next time I need the opinion of an idiot, I'll look you up.

Taking back our team was no joke. We won.

Leach would be awesome at UT...Still upset I woke up this morning and he wasn't our coach because they fired Currie...This is getting tiring and I don't know what is on Fulmers mind...I am horrified he will go after some boring prostylish type of coach that can't gain 9 yards a game in todays game....I don't know what to think anymore...Remember he was responsible for bringing the Clawfense to UT....Geesh, What a nightmare this has been.

Whoever Tennessee hires, they must hire someone that gives us a fighting chance of winning now. That is a tall task considering what we just witnessed with Georgia and with Dan Mullen in Gainesville. Trotting some midmajor jokester across the stage would be a disaster.

Mike Leach is realistically our best option. I just hope Phillip Fulmer gives him the opportunity to compete in the SEC.

If Fulmer hires a coach like Steele and passes on Leach we will know that Fulmer is Haslam 2.0

I don't think so. Chris Low did an interview where he said he talked with CPF and he said UT needed someone who fit the community and knows the SEC and can recruit the region. Not seeing how an eccentric pirate loving guy fits and plays in East Tennessee...not to mention his lack of defense. He could be fun for a few years though, but not a long term answer IMO.

Phillip Fulmer is looking for a politician, not a head coach.

I agree 100%. One of the main issues with Tennessee, is that they are looking for this perfect mold of a coach that doesn’t exist. My concern is that Coach Fulmer will go after a “politically correct” figure head of a head coach putting overall wins as a secondary factor in the hiring process. Him being burned by Lane Kiffin will only drive this mentality.

I can envision the discussions b/t Fulmer already... Say the right things.. Look the right way.. and “win a few games”... Check! You’re hired!
