Kelly is a Great player-had his number been called 10 more times during the FL game, we'd have won-in spite of jones's poor coaching. We are sure to see Mr. Kelly playing on Sunday in the future, but the failure of jones and staff to utilize him (and other great players), I believe, is hurting the $$$$ they'll be able to get coming off the draft. Jones would actually look a real coach if he allowed great players to play. This goes to the heart of why we are where we are. Jones not only makes bone-headed calls during games, but fails to utilize our great talent. He costs us games with his poor game generalship, but he is also costing $$$ to the players that put 100% on the line for UT everyday in training and on game day. Just saying...

Kelly is an awesome back.

Still baffles me that he wasn't ranked higher coming out of high school.

And to answer your question, CRG is a great running backs coach so it's not like he has poor coaching.

Now Butch being in the picture, thats a whole different story.

Feel like people are making too big of a deal about Kelly's # of carries and too little of a deal about Ty Chandler's. Kelly does need some rest. I'd much rather run the ball with Ty Chandler or CFA than pass the ball 60% of the time when we only have one decent WR and a mistake-prone QB. Sure, Kelly should've gotten some more runs in certain key situations (cough cough 1st & Goal from 1 cough cough), but his overall load is fine. It's more that the coaches are not getting the other RBs carries.

The fact that so many of us (including myself) are worried that he might jump to the NFL after this season, I'm going to say no. Kelly's future worth is not being hurt. If he stays healthy 1,300 yards rushing is possible.

JK had 25 touches and at various points looked exhausted. I'm not sure how many more touches he really could handle. He's very good, but he's not a workhorse type RB that's going to run it 30 times. He needs to share carries for his own good and Chandler and CFA look very capable.

Title wording is odd.

Desperate stretch for a new spin in Jones bashing.

Sorry you feel that way. What would you suggest as a better title? No desperation here, what-so-ever, the facts about jones speak for themselves. I stand by my belief, had Kelly's number been called another 10 time during the FL game, we'd have won.
jones does not seem to have the ability to actually utilize the full potential of our players. It appears he'd rather lose a game than to change his plays (ones that would allow some of our players natural abilities- to help us whip some ass).

Yes, at time he did look like he needed a rest. I've watched the FL game at least 5 times, JK is no wuss, he was ready willing and able to handle the ball more than he was called on to do. And hell yes, we should have utilized Chandler far more, another player not being utilized-to the detriment of the team. We're throwing more than we are running, a strange choice, when we have better runners than we have throwers.

So our staff is one of very, very few big-name schools to even look at Kelly. They see the potential, much to the dismay of the VN "3 star U" crowd, now he's a star running back being heralded across the country.
But they hurt his worth.

That's just ******* awesome.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever. Kelly is killing it and was not very highly recruited. Seems like "lack of coaching" suddenly turned him into one of the best backs in the SEC with the most yardage.

Make sure you cheer for Tennessee tomorrow instead of wishing we lose so you can get your coaching change.

Let me get this straight. Butch is costing him money because Butch has him leading the Sec as a RB? Does that make any sense to you because it doesn't to me.

Why didn't you just title the thread Butch sucks and go on a rant? Would have made way more sense to not try and sugarcoat what you really wanted to say.

Haha. Charger my man. That is correct. May have to grab JK's recruitment thread just to see the ledge jumpers.

Idk if him having so many touches wo hurt his draft stock or anything. If his number of touches and production stay steady throughout the season, NFL teams will probably see that as him being durable.

Maybe the only question mark for Kelly going into this season was whether or not he could carry the lod over the course of an entire season. If we continue to lean on him and he stays productive and healthy, he'll have answered that question.

Also it doesn't hurt that he didn't have much tread from the previous two seasons. He came into his Jr year with under 150 career carries. A lot of other backs who will enter the draft this year will have a lot more wear and tear on them than JK.

Yeah....lets run him 30 times a game. When he's worn down and or injured, this staff will be condemned for overworking and ruining his NFL future. There's enough for fans to ***** about without lobbing crap like this into the mix.

Btw, I hope he has a great NFL career but I use him as it benefits UT and this team. He's a vol and the NFL can wait.

Kelly isn't being underutilized at all. (Well except in the redzone) Byrd and Wiggins on the other hand....

I stay with, had we called Kelly's number 10 more times during the FL game, we'd have won, thus he is not being utilized to his full potential. To those that believe jones was a masterful SEC quality game-day coach during the FL game, well I feel sorry for you...
