Is JRM suspended for VA Tech game?

No. He was ejected in the 1st qtr. If ejected early enough in the 2nd half then he would have to sit out the 1st half and could then come in and play the 2nd half. Late ejections in the 2nd half results in having to sit out the next game.

What's the rule on this? Is he out the first half?

Jalen got ejected during the first half. Had it happened in the 3rd? Then he would be ineligible until halftime.

But no, he is good. Unless one of our other backers steps up and beats him out.

You put your playmaker athletes on special teams.

JRM is a playmaker athlete.

He was where he belonged.

And, as for that play, Jalen faced a shrinking target with milliseconds to adjust his aim point. That dramatically changed his options for what parts of his body to lead with, and where on the other player's body he could impact. He did the best he could.

Was the call right? Absolutely, it was targeting by the definition. It's a good rule, and was properly enforced on that play. That doesn't mean JRM did it with malicious intent, or that he had much of a choice. Sometimes, things just roll snake eyes for you.

It is on the coverage guy to avoid helmet to helmet contact. Jalen took his eyes off the returner to make a big hit. He made a mistake trying to make a game changing play. Had he kept his head up, and made shoulder to shoulder contact? Refs might not have even called catch interference. But when they saw heads clash? The review was just going through the motions, the decision to eject was already made.

The fair catch was signaled for early in the play.

Horse crap! There was no fair catch on that play. Neither hand went above his shoulder. Never even twitched in that direction. What game were you watching?

Are you all kidding me. JRM checked up. Then came on with it. Then he lowered his head. Did you not see him. He should have jumped over the guy. It was definite blatant targeting. Then he left the field with disrespect. He should have went quietly. Then he threw his helmet in the hallway. I used to like him but no more!

TV cameras don't need to be back there to show him throw his helmet. But they were. That being said, though I wish he had shown more poise, I am not gonna be a self-righteous ass and hate him over it. I am sure he is sitting in the dark weeping and wailing just because of your reaction.

To be fair, the announcers missed the fair catch and never corrected their slip, so I don't pin that on JRM. Not being careful where his helmet was, I do. But again, even mushberger pointed out that had the Appy player remained upright, it would likely not be targeting.

Just bad luck.

And you know what? If he throws his helmet into the locker room, who GAS? Shows he has passion. Honestly I likely would have done far worse. He's a competitor and that's good. What if he had been laughing and smiling like it was no big deal? Is that better or worse?

Will JRM be reprimanded for slinging his helmet we he went to the locker room?

no, I just gave him a little "talking to"...:)

PS. Naw, doubt it. He was actually trying to fire up the team and the fans. No big deal...

GO VOLS!

I don't know the guy's name but he just said on the Extra Point tv show on WVLT that JRM would have to sit the first quarter? Not the half but the quarter. Is that true?

Ok, let's clear things up.

The NCAA rule says that if you're ejected in the first half of a game, the ejection is for the remainder of that game only. If you're ejected in the second half, the ejection lasts the remainder of that game, and the first half of the next.

Jalen was ejected in the first half of Thursday's game. Therefore, his ejection ended when that game ended.

IF JRM is out for any part of the Battle at Bristol, it is purely a Vols-internal decision by Butch. I haven't heard a single peep about Jalen being in trouble with the coaches.

So expect to see him from the very first snap in Bristol.

Go Vols!

Thank you for clearing that up. That's what I always thought but when he said (first quarter only) that's what threw me off

Kinda what I've been saying for years. At some point, at least some of the onus has to fall on the offensive guy. If you stick your head out in front of your body, there's a good chance it's what's gonna get hit first.

Which makes it a legitimate offensive strategy. I'm not saying it's right, because it's not. However, I'd almost bet that the punt returner was instructed to do something like that if he had the opportunity.
