Is Jimmy Hyams Right?

They've passed the ball 255 times and ran it 413 times.

62% run, 38% pass

You need to look at the yards before you start telling me what is balanced and what isn't.

Example for the past 3 seasons.....

West Virginia

Rushing Yards
3864 on 628 Attempts 07'
3939 on 590 Attempts 06'
3269 on 625 Attempts 05'

Passing Yards
2067 on 265 Attempts 07'
2059 on 233 Attempts 06'
1398 on 193 Attempts 05'

So based on attempts it is....

72.7% Run 27.3% Pass

Based on Yards.....

66.7% Run 33.3% Pass

West Virginia is a run heavy offense based on results and attempted plays.

Now on to Florida...

Florida

Rushing Yards
2602 on 487 Attempts 07'
2240 on 476 Attempts 06'
1761 on 455 Attempts 05'

Passing Yards
3341 on 361 Attempts 07'
3305 on 399 Attempts 06'
2720 on 285 Attempts 05'

Based on Attempts....

57.6% Run 43.4% Pass

Based on Yards....

41.3% Run 58.7% Pass

Florida is a team that attempts the run, but is more balanced/passing.

You need to look at the yards before you start telling me what is balanced and what isn't.

1. Show me where I've typed the word balance.

2. Passing plays, by their very nature, result in more yards than running plays.

1. You didn't that was the point to the comment.

2. You have to take into consideration though how many yards an offense gains by the type of play, not just the attempts themselves.

No.

Then you could say that an offense that attempted to run the ball 17 straight times in the 3rd and 4th quarter while being up 14-21 points could be considered a run heavy offense even though you would have more yards passing and be at 55% run and 45% pass at the end of the game. Your thought process on this is flawed. Even at Utah, Meyer's offense had more passing yards than rushing yards but more attempts. RRod at West Virginia is a run heavy spread option, Meyer at Florida is balanced.
