Is Jarrett Guarantano on campus?

Not sold on QD? Really? Who knew?

Also, I thought you were indeed a Dormady supporter, just thought he doesn't fit well at UT? Am I wrong?

I never said he didn't fit well at Tennessee, I have always said he could run this offense. I just think there are others who will do it better. S. Jones and JG for starters. But JMO. I never doubted Dormady's talent i just don't believe he will ever really contribute here. That is why i thought he would/will transfer eventually.

Jarrett definitely has the athleticism to compete immediately and it doesn't hurt that he played against high level competition throughout his HS career. Bergen Catholic was said to have the toughest schedule in the country his Junior year and according to Rivals he played against a total of 91 Rivals rated players his senior season.

You're comparing a kid with only high school film to someone that we have seen on the field and has game experience. Even if it is garbage time that is an extremely ignorant statement. Definition of jumping to conclusions.

Dormady hasn't played anybody with a pulse, all cupcakes so HS films is far more reliable than any garbage time he has played. Texas HS is tougher than Western Carolina last year, give me a break. the ignorance is found in crowning someone a definite starter based on the limited time we have seen in Dormady. He may be a great QB someday, but that is certainly not a sure thing. JG is was much higher rated than Dormady coming out of HS as well. JG after Redshirting will be ready to play, and don't forget S. Jones as well Dormady isn't the only answer like soem would have us to believe.

Sheriron Jones looked to be a dynamic passer and runner as well before getting to Tennessee but he's not sniffing the second string QB role thst QD currently has locked down.

I'm all good with JG coming in, being outstanding and becoming both the starter in 2017 and the next great Tennessee QB. Everything to this point about our QB situation and the players involved is pure speculation. I just want the best player leading our offense post-Dobbs and I couldn't care less who it is.

S. Jones very well could have given Dormady a run for the #2 QB if he hadn't gotten hurt during the spring. Who knows what would have happen. I personally haven't heard anything about Dormady this off-season, maybe all the hype has worn off. Dormady will be a sufficient #2 this year but i don't see him going much further than that here. That is simply JMO, but he hasn't impressed me that much even against the weak competition he played against.

Jonathon Crompton had a few games against weak teams that made him look great but he was not a great QB. Its all about perspective. QD may be a great QB here and that would be fine with me. As long as we win I don't care who plays QB, but i am not ready to give him the keys to the car right now! I have to believe that most of you agree that he isn't quiet ready(if he ever will be) to lead this offense, even to the level that Dobbs has.

I think the starting job is Quinten's to hold, or lose, in 2017 (spring camp, fall camp, into the season). It is possible that Jarrett or Sheriron take it from him...they're all three going to be very good QBs, I think. By that point, they'll be true Junior, redshirt Sophomore, and redshirt Freshman, barring any 2016 injuries to Josh.

May the best man win, and the Vols win either way.

Not sure about that. Think Dormady is the 2017 starter but regardless next spring and fall will be a fun QB battle to watch. Dormady,Jones,Guarantano and this years QB recruit if we land one. But all were highly rated coming out of HS.

Dormady was no where near the prospect JG was. JG was a top 80 player and the top dt qb and a top 5 qb overall. Dormady was 262 overall and the 11 ranked pro style qb. Not even a top 15 qb.

That ticket gets used up once you pass through the front door.

Now it's all down to how they compete head-to-head for play time. You can throw out all the stars and HS accolades.

True. I think JG has more talent and will show it when he arrives. The very small sample we have seen from Dormady has been average. He had an average spring. I think he stays a number 2 guy his career here.

Like you said, QD hasn't played much, with the majority of that time with 2nd and 3rd teamers. A little premature to judge him based off mop up duty or to count him out..

Although not near the running threat Dobbs is, I think he would be plenty adequate, if not suprising, with first team weapons around him..

We get it John. You don't like QD, he's never gonna do anything worthwhile at Tennessee and you've been predicting he'll transfer before he literally ever took a snap in Knoxville. Even though it was actually Jones who did indeed transfer earlier this year, you still think QD won't amount to much here and should get out while the getting' good. It's your opinion, no worries, we got it.

Edit: just a quick question? You weren't impressed with his perfectly thrown 49 yard over the shoulder throw to PWill ....and his TD pass, thrown on an absolute rope while on the run to PWill vs West Carolina? And don't try to use the "it was against WCar" excuse. The competition had nothing to do with the skill set he showed while making both those throws.

Full disclosure, I've seen some things of QD, like those 2 throws that greatly impressed me, and I've seen a few plays, primarily of him running that have left me unimpressed .... of course, in comparison to Dobbs, few will appear nearly as athletic as Josh IMO.

Not only did he do it Against Western Carolina but he didn't even do it against there starters. I was at the game and he had forever to throw, and got pressure late to throw on the run. it was no more impressive than the best 2 throws Dobbs made last year. What is your point Dormady makes 2 really good throws out or 22 throws and he is going to do great things here? If Butch believed he was the next QB after Dobbs wouldn't he have let him play in some of the later SEC games to get the real experience in the whole offense?

Butch didn't trust him to do anything but hand the ball off and kill the clock. wouldn't you want you next starting QB to get good quality reps in a meaningful game? Read the writing on the wall!!! He may have proved to Butch that he can be trusted we will know that soon enough this fall, but if he holds him back and never lets him loose, then I believe my point is proven.

I do not Hate Dormady, i think he is very talented, i just don't think he's going to get the shot to prove it here. He is a filler until better talent gets here. In a perfect world he would have even been 3rd string last year. But our lack of depth at QB forced us to have a freshman as a backup. He has made some good throws and bad throws, but his decision making is what i doubt in him as a QB. In the Spring game last year he threw right to the hands of a defender that should have been a pick six.

The point is that people are hyping him up to be a great QB and be a sure starter after Dobbs, that just isn't the case. I hope we don't have to learn that the hard way this year if Dobbs were to get injured. You do know S. Jones is back right? and that Dormady still has 3 years to transfer right? Not saying he even has to transfer, I am jsut saying it may be in the best interest for his football future if he does. Being a #2 QB for 4 years in college isn't why he came to Tennessee.

On QD, Swain seems convinced that QD will be the next Vol QB after Dobbs.

Yes. As a matter of fact, he was talking about Butch's potential philosophy of when to get QD into games this year, specifically games where we're clearly going to win (eg, Appy State, Ohio, Tenn Tech) in an effort to bolster this year's WR recruiting. He said it's imperative to have WR recruits see as much of Dormady as possible in games so that they can see who will be throwing them the ball in 2017. Didn't once allow for the idea that any other QB would be our starter in 2017. Tifwiw, and, will all due respect, his opinion is worth more than pretty much everybody else's on this board (along with GFW and LWS) IMO.

Edit: also, for those who didn't see it, shortly after the O&W game, PWill either tweeted or instagramed a picture of he and QD....it was titled, "The Future". Again, Tifwiw.

I would not mind if QD played a entire game with the one's against Tennessee Tech or at least three quarters, let JD help coach him.. Same for Kelly.. JMO

I seem to recall that Tyler Bray only completed 4 out of about 30 passes one spring game. Everyone thought he was going to be garbage during live games that year. This board was in melt down over it. He wasn't garbage at all that year.

Will Guarantano end up being better than Dobbs? If you had to make a call now, would you say YES or NO? Make your prediction.

Count me as a YES. More highly rated recruit, no reason to think JG won't be just as dynamic with his feet and it won't take very much to be much better throwing the ball than Josh. So yes, I got Guarantano.
