Is Jarrett Guarantano on campus?

Well seeing as Dobbs only played one full year as a starter....

I find it ridiculous anyone would even think of someone other than Dobbs being our starting QB is silly. The guy is a legit Heisman candidate and people are thinking/hoping a true freshman can beat that? No matter how talented the kid coming in is the chances of replacing that type of talent is slim. If Dobbs an Elite passer? No. Is he as weak a passer as people try to make him out to be? Also no. Any passer would have struggled to put up elite numbers with the supporting cast Dobbs has had to work with. His leading WR ran a freaking 4.8.. We did not have explosive athletes at WR last year thats a fact. Explosive Athletes are gonna make plays no matter who throws them the ball. If Dobbs had CP and Justin Hunter to throw to he would have won the Heisman last year. We didn't have anyone like that on our team the past 3 years. Jennings and Williams might get there eventually but the rest of our WR's were all possession/move the chains types.

Trust me with this O-line and this group of WR's we will see a new passing offense in Neyland. It won't be like the old days but it will be a lot more explosive.
Umm...I don't doubt at all that Dobbs will be starting.

I do think that whoever takes over after him will be in a better position to put up big numbers earlier in their career and probably will do so.

It will be difficult to compare Dobbs to his successors because of that.

When you say things like "and it won't take very much to be much better throwing the ball than Josh" shows a lack of appreciation and respect.

You could have said it in a respectful manner by just saying you think JG has more potential as a passer. But that was a straight up dig. And you know it.

Cause I promise you this, you wouldn't have said that statement in that way if it was someone you "appreciate and respect." There are ways of saying criticisms about people you respect in respectful ways.

That's your take and you're entitled to it. It's wrong, but you're entitled to it. Love Dobbs, but it ain't gonna take much for talented guy like JG to exceed a 60% completion rate while throwing in a "short passing game" offense that yields 6.7 yards per attempt. That's just truth.

Josh's passing "deficiencies" is but one element of his game and is strongly outweighed by everything else he's great at and everything else he's meant to the program at this point. He's won at a high level here despite his accuracy issues because of everything else (running ability, some timely, clutch play, leadership) he brings to the table....and it's why EVERYBODY except for you correctly identifies his potentially improved throwing accuracy as being the "final piece" needed to put Tennessee in the National Title discussion.

I seem to recall that Tyler Bray only completed 4 out of about 30 passes one spring game. Everyone thought he was going to be garbage during live games that year. This board was in melt down over it. He wasn't garbage at all that year.

I didn't say his completions....I said his decision making? Dormady can throw no doubt, and he may be a great QB here someday but we haven't seen enough to know that for sure. That is my only point!!!!

I personally think that JG will win the starting job in 2017 but i really don'y care who the QB is as long as we win. But once again that is JMO!!!!

HS films are not a better way to judge players when the other has been through 2 spring practices,a full football season where he did get some meaningful snaps in a college atmosphere. Saying HS film is a greater way to compare players vs playing in college games whether it's mop up duty or not. Getting a feel for the speed difference in college is huge. As far as JG being much higher rated is just not true. Both players were 4* in all 4 major services so I wouldn't come even close to saying JG was much higher ranked. JG may have been ranked higher as far as position players on 247 but even that can't be evenly compared because QD was a pro style QB and JG was more of a dual threat. We have 3 really good QB's behind Dobb's that were all 4* in at least 1 of the services. We will be in good hands no matter who wins the job next season. The only issue I had with your post was saying JG was much hirer ranked over QD which couldn't be any further from the truth.

Guarantano is a lot more high profile coming in than Dormady. He's a consensus top 100 player nationally. Dormady wasn't. He made the Elite 11. Dormady didn't.

Its wrong to act like they are on the same level. Guarantano is definitely coming in as a much better prospect ON PAPER.

Dormady 4* #262 Nationally #11 Pro QB .90 Score
Guarantano 4* #77 Nationally #1 DT QB .96 Score

Not really that close in prospect rating or position rating, there is quiet a talent gap between the #77 player and the #262 player sorry, you can't see that. JG is going to be for real and Dormady may be carrying a clipboard for 2 more years if he decides to stay here.

There is a clear distance on paper and there will be on the field as well, JG is going to be the Starting QB before the end of the 2017 season, DOrmady may come out as the starter but Jg will relieve him of his duties before the season ends (Barring he doesn't take it before the season begins, which is my prediction)

Declaring ANYBODY (other than Dobbs) the best option based on the limited info we've accrued, is a desperate act of self-delusion. Easy to peg personal preferences and agendas when it's blatantly posted. No matter how confident you display it...not reality. Let the kids and coaches sort this out...we've proven we're not good at it. :hmm:

Dobbs is the Best Option on campus to play QB, no doubt. He will be the best option until he doesn't have any eligibilty left.

Lets hope that isn't something we have to argue during the season. I want to see him go out the way he deserves too, Healthy!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. Without context any comparison is silly. Any person coming in after Dobbs in coming into something already built. When he was part of the build. Our talent level is just now getting to where it should be. The past few years, draft day has shown that. We are getting back to the days of multiple first and second day picks.
