Not only did he do it Against Western Carolina but he didn't even do it against there starters. I was at the game and he had forever to throw, and got pressure late to throw on the run. it was no more impressive than the best 2 throws Dobbs made last year. What is your point Dormady makes 2 really good throws out or 22 throws and he is going to do great things here? If Butch believed he was the next QB after Dobbs wouldn't he have let him play in some of the later SEC games to get the real experience in the whole offense?
Butch didn't trust him to do anything but hand the ball off and kill the clock. wouldn't you want you next starting QB to get good quality reps in a meaningful game? Read the writing on the wall!!! He may have proved to Butch that he can be trusted we will know that soon enough this fall, but if he holds him back and never lets him loose, then I believe my point is proven.
I do not Hate Dormady, i think he is very talented, i just don't think he's going to get the shot to prove it here. He is a filler until better talent gets here. In a perfect world he would have even been 3rd string last year. But our lack of depth at QB forced us to have a freshman as a backup. He has made some good throws and bad throws, but his decision making is what i doubt in him as a QB. In the Spring game last year he threw right to the hands of a defender that should have been a pick six.
The point is that people are hyping him up to be a great QB and be a sure starter after Dobbs, that just isn't the case. I hope we don't have to learn that the hard way this year if Dobbs were to get injured. You do know S. Jones is back right? and that Dormady still has 3 years to transfer right? Not saying he even has to transfer, I am jsut saying it may be in the best interest for his football future if he does. Being a #2 QB for 4 years in college isn't why he came to Tennessee.
Will Guarantano end up being better than Dobbs? If you had to make a call now, would you say YES or NO? Make your prediction.
As of now? I certainly hope so. I don't know if he will scramble quite as well, but as touted as he is, I hope he can consistently knock the drum major's hat off throwing from the far 30.
Dormady hasn't played anybody with a pulse, all cupcakes so HS films is far more reliable than any garbage time he has played. Texas HS is tougher than Western Carolina last year, give me a break. the ignorance is found in crowning someone a definite starter based on the limited time we have seen in Dormady. He may be a great QB someday, but that is certainly not a sure thing. JG is was much higher rated than Dormady coming out of HS as well. JG after Redshirting will be ready to play, and don't forget S. Jones as well Dormady isn't the only answer like soem would have us to believe.
Watching these Dormady haters back peddle next year is going to be priceless. The guy is a pure passer.
The O will be more traditional next year because he doesn't have the wheels, but he's very accurate. Can't wait to see him on opening weekend this year. They're going to let him throw.

Jarrett Guarantano Tennessee 1-7 18-0-0
This is the only time I've seen JG play in the Under Armor
He did not look good at all , hope this was just not knowing his team mates . I'm not sure of his HS competition caliber of play in New Jersey but this was probably the first time he faced players with speed everywhere. How that translates to college, who knows fingers crossed. 1 of 7 for 18 yards.
QD probably faced better HS competition in Texas.

Declaring ANYBODY (other than Dobbs) the best option based on the limited info we've accrued, is a desperate act of self-delusion. Easy to peg personal preferences and agendas when it's blatantly posted. No matter how confident you display it...not reality. Let the kids and coaches sort this out...we've proven we're not good at it. :hmm:

Wait till Dobbs is gone. You guys will be sorry you didn't appreciate him more.
Cmon KB, you know how it works. If you're not fan-girling over Dobbs, you hate him.I appreciate everything about Josh Dobbs and know that he's an outstanding player and a special person. He's just not an elite passer and I, like 99.99999% of the rest of the United State population can see and acknowledge that. Either way, he'll go down as one of the all-time great Vols and will indeed be both missed and revered when he's done here.
You already uncategorically stated last year, after looking at JG's film vs a bunch of New Jersey highschool kids, that he's clearly faster than Dobbs. Pretty sure they was our first disagreement on VN.
JG is also a more highly rated prospect coming out of highschool and from what I've seen, a large part of the reason why is because of his better passing skills. Just because I think JG can and likely will be a better QB at UT than Dobbs, it in no way my appreciation and respect for him. It's just a subjective opinion based limited information at this point.

Well seeing as Dobbs only played one full year as a starter....To be fair, if Guarantano can throw for 3000 yards before his 4th year on campus, he'll already have surpassed Dobbs in at least one way at least.
Honestly I expect whoever takes over after Dobbs to put up better passing numbers than we've seen from Dobbs thus far regardless. But it is worth noting that whoever takes over in 2017 should walk into a much better position than Dobbs did in 2014 and probably in 2015 as well.

I find it ridiculous anyone would even think of someone other than Dobbs being our starting QB is silly. The guy is a legit Heisman candidate and people are thinking/hoping a true freshman can beat that? No matter how talented the kid coming in is the chances of replacing that type of talent is slim. If Dobbs an Elite passer? No. Is he as weak a passer as people try to make him out to be? Also no. Any passer would have struggled to put up elite numbers with the supporting cast Dobbs has had to work with. His leading WR ran a freaking 4.8.. We did not have explosive athletes at WR last year thats a fact. Explosive Athletes are gonna make plays no matter who throws them the ball. If Dobbs had CP and Justin Hunter to throw to he would have won the Heisman last year. We didn't have anyone like that on our team the past 3 years. Jennings and Williams might get there eventually but the rest of our WR's were all possession/move the chains types.
Trust me with this O-line and this group of WR's we will see a new passing offense in Neyland. It won't be like the old days but it will be a lot more explosive.
