Is it wrong?

Just to expand on this topic a little I am a little surprised at the hatred for the Buckeyes on Volnation. We have only played Ohio State once back in '96 and we won. No reason for bad blood. Is it just because their fans are so annoying?
Have you ever met a Ohio State fan? Obnoxious. They think they’re Alabama but they’re really Georgia.

I like Clemson, always have and it wouldn't bother me in the least to see them win it again, but I am an LSU fan too and probably a little more than Clemson. I am named after Billy Cannon who played and won the Heisman at LSU and I absolutely pull for LSU because they are the main adversaries of Bama and Auburn ! I don't see how anybody can root against a team that whips Bama and Auburns ass ! But that's just me

You know that Clemson whipped Bama's azz the last time they played, and won their last 2 against Aubie, right?

The theory that it makes a difference in recruiting if the rest of the SEC field fades back to your level has never seemed to me to be valid. Plus, they are not going to help you out, i.e. the SEC is going to be tops every year, so you might as well embrace it and look at it as a tool to recruit -- show off your skills against the best players increases your odds of getting into the NFL.

Look at it this way, if you aren't at the top of the SEC, it likely means you have room for 4 and 5 star players to come in and get immediate playing time, versus sitting on the bench at a team that is already more loaded. It theoretically ought to be cyclical, but it isn't. The same teams get the best players year in and year out because those high school kids know that going to the Alabama's, LSU's, UGA's, and yes, I'll say it, the UF's, translates to a better chance to go pro than playing for an Arkansas, or a Vandy.

You are smack dab in the middle now, like it or not. Its going to take transforming players constituting average classes into NFL players. That's how its done.

There are plenty of prospects that don’t go to any of those that get drafted and have success

Some of my best friends are Louisville fans and I pulled for them to win, but I will always pull for SEC teams over anybody, even Bumma and Gators

If you could lower yourself to do anything but root against Alabubba and Floriduh, you’re a person of very low morals and it’s possible you have no soul.

I certainly do, but Clemson doesn't play them every single year. LSU is in the same division of the same conference as the evil ones from Tuscaloosa and Auburn. Plus they have had the better of Gators in recent years which definitely puts another feather in their cap.

The way I figure it you can root for whomever you want...I cant recall a moral code that deems it "wrong" to root for or against the SEC. After the Vols I tend to root more for "individuals" than teams. But that's just me.

I get that and there are games I watch for certain players. The thing I’m getting tired of hearing is how if the SEC teams do well it’s better for UT recruiting. I think that’s a pile of mess. Good Coaches and winning helps recruiting not how Mississippi State does against Louisville. Has it hurt Clemson that the ACC has been hot garbage?

Yes, it is. It would harm UT for the SEC to be considered the equivalent of everyone else, unless we were to reach Clemson heights. The SEC is THE brand of college football and it is for a number of reasons, but the main two that go hand in hand: winning % against everyone else and the number of NFL draft picks. Why do you think kids from the West Coast are even considering Tennessee and other SEC schools in the numbers they are now and ignoring most PAC 12/14/whatever schools including USC? It is because the Vols come calling with "Here is your opportunity to be considered the best of the best, play in front of huge crowds and on TV during the day, not after everyone in the East has gone to bed and best chance for a big NFL paycheck."

The SEC and B1G understand branding. The other P5 conferences do to of course, but the ACC and Big12 share or are too close in much of their footprint to the SEC. Of course, if it were Tennessee and the 13 midgets in a reversal with the ACC, UT might be okay, but Dabo has built something special which no other school has been able to do outside the SEC. Excluding Clemson, no one but OSU has come even close in the last ten years. When UT rises to the one of the top SEC teams, that will mean more. If not, then he!!, let's jump ship and go the Notre Dame route, but we're not Notre Dame with 60+ million Catholics pulling for us nationally.

Some of that kind of rambled, but the gist of it is we need the SEC and the SEC needs us. To be great again. Go Vols.

I pull for Tennessee and whatever helps Tennessee. Sometimes it helps Tennessee for the SEC to win.

imo there will come a time we want sec to stay on top such as when we get to where we are wanting to be the college rankings for the playoffs. I want sec to contiue to do well. When it comes to rankings you win sec you are in the playoffs automatically. If sec does not continue to do well who knows who will be in the playoffs. and in addition to that it helps our recruiting to have a strong sec. to get top notch recruits from other areas. Just my opinion, go sec

I hope they all lose. I don’t root for anybody else unless it benefits the Vols in the regular season standings.

imo sec wins in bowls do help ut. It means a stronger conference, more tv time, better for recruiting. Better for college rankings.

You are right but not as many as sec teams. For 12 years in a row sec has had more players drafted to nfl than any other conference.

Speaking of pulling for SEC Teams Kentucky is kind of getting their butts handed to them right now. I am finding myself rooting for them.

The best thing about Ohio states loss is they cut away to show Urban Meyers right before the interception that cost them the game . That couldn’t have worked out any better if they had planned it . 😂

I pull for SEC teams in bowl games. I want our conference to be strong and beat up the others. So many teams have it incredibly easy because they are in a weak conference. I want them to feel the pain SEC teams go through on a weekly basis.

** Except Florida -- there is not a scenario imaginable that will convince me to hope for a UF victory.
I used to feel this way, but we have to recruit with every sec team. I want all to lose except the good guys. It never hurts Oklahoma or Clemson to have an easy conference. All we would have to then is tell people our conference is good like Dabo does.

Go to their forum and read what they think of us and all the garbage they said , it will help stop the sympathy for them . 😊

I’ll grant ya who wins the Championship has effect on conference perception, but nobody cares or remembers who won The Viagara Prostate Cancer Awareness Bowl.
I’m still not pulling for Frankenstein and The University of LSU.
