Does the NCAA still allow roster changes? Is it too late to hold open tryouts for the Offensive Line?

I've never seen a group play so poor. This is a senior squad, with a ton of hype surrounding them, that can't get a foot on two tries.

It doesn't matter if it's Stephens, Crompton, or John Elway in at Quarterback. A line like our's can make any offense look terrible. Can't block, can't run, can't protect. Embarrassing. Hell, they can't even stand still until the ball is snapped.

Texas Tech's line has held Texas in check all night. The Tech QB routinely has 5, even 8-9 seconds to make a throw, without having to move the pocket. Stephens couldn't get the snap in shotgun before USCe was all over him. Our line has poor execution, and they act like they started playing football yesterday.

I realize now how much our offense leaned on Ainge last year. He looked mediocre because he was trying to carry 5 other guys who supposedly know what they're doing.

It's the same O-line as last year....I think it's the different schemes that has the O-line confused...or their retarded...one or the other.

I think Ainge made them what they were. He was probably so busy covering their butts that he couldn't develop his own game.

There's no confusion. Grabbing a guy under the armpits and setting your feet won't get a guy blocked or moved.

agreed......assuming Ainge got rid of ball faster, but aside from that, these OL's are so confused they don't even know who to block, how to pick up blitzes, etc......

they may all be overrated, but there's NO WAY they could get that much WORSE in one year, impossible......

Clawson + Fulmer = Worst offense in TN history

I got chastised the other day by a fellow vn member for even considering leach...all of a sudden leach don't look so bad

I like his play calling and his guts on offense. He just needs to figure out the whole defense thing or he wouldn't survive in the sec.

...but he is coaching TXTECH...attaining any success at that school has to be hard

I don't know what our line did in the off season but it was obviously not learning the new system or working out. when you look at our line they just play so soft and are so slooowww. I can't tell you how many times I have seen our left side tackle who ever is playing that side on a given play get beat stupid by a DE because our tackle's feet look like they are in cement. that is one of the reasons why I think we are getting so many false starts this year, our guys are getting beat on pass protection so bad because of their slow feet that they are trying to get an edge anyway they can and that results in alot of false starts.
I think our biggest problem on offense is our o-line followed very closely by WR crew, they run sloppy routes, don't get any separation and when they actually do catch the ball they don't make anything happen well other than D. Moore a couple of times.
Watching them play this year is just embarrassing:bad:

I really hope the June Jones suggestion is a joke holmes. As a Falcons fan who has been through a June Jones era and after witnessing how he did against an SEC team in last years Sugar Bowl, I say that would be worse than keeping CPF.

I agree that the o line isnt playing well. But the root of the problems is at qb. How many times did the qb's not see the blitz, corner blitz, hot routes that were open tonight?. If they could see that occasionally, they could have some success. Ainge could see it, and thats why he was successful. The guys we have now just don't have a clue on how to read a defense. They look for one receiver, and if they aren't open, they are screwed. Not saying that is all their fault. Just it is what it is.

And as for Leach. He could succeed in the SEC. With the recruits he could pull into UT, they would be prolific on offense. And the defense we have now is comparable to TT's if not better. So, I personally would love to see him here. Don't think it will ever happen, but it sure would be fun to watch.

I wasnt saying we should go get him, just somebody that runs that style of offense, not the fulmer lets run it right up the middle and dump short passes until we're down by 20 pts. We have a good defense, that should not be the expertise of our next hire. We are pitiful on offense and need rejuvination there. And June jones didnt have the talent at hawaii playing florida, personally i thought they never deserved to be there because hawaii never had a strong d, but with the talent on d UT brings in that could change, its not him i like but his style of doing what works with what he has to score points. But, Mike leach has shown that his offense can score alot of points against BCS defenses and has won plenty of even non confrence games while at TTU. I really like the high flying offensive style he has and with the right talent and execution its nearly impoosible to cover that amount of field every down. But my main point is that we need a rejuvination on offense with our next coach that can put up big points not more conservative calling. And.....people said urban meyers high scoring offense at utah would never work in the SEC and as we have seen that wasnt true.

I get what you are saying, no disrespect intended. Just got burned by June down here in Atlanta and as you can tell, the bitterness remains.

yeah i hear ya, no disrespect intended on this end at all, but alot of people on this board i feel are stuck too much on defensive minded people when it seems like the game is changing. The game has really passed the "I-formation run it up the middle, ball control" type offense by. we need someone with new ideas and an understanding of where college football will be 10 years from now rather than 10 years ago. Ultimately the goal of football is to score more points than the opponent, I think leach could bring in the talent to keep his offensive style rolling and keep our level of defense at UT the same.

I understand your bitterness from the falcons, but the pro game is a completely different beast than college ball. Look at all the coaches that had great careers in college and failed in the pros....pete carroll, spurrier, saban....june jones at least has shown he understand the college game and can win there, hes never been at a program that can get the big name defensive guys, that doesnt mean that he doesnt understand defense or is willing to put the effort into it. i think thats hurt him when big jobs come open.
