We don't do that very well with the drugs that ARE legal, what makes you think that when we legalize highly addictive drugs like meth and cocaine that we would do better?
Cigarettes are highly addictive and their usage has been decreasing dramatically the last couple of decades.

You asked why one should expect us to do well with addictive drugs, and I gave your dumbass an example of a highly addictive drug that Americans are very quickly running away from.
And yes cigarettes do mess with the chemical makeup of your brain. All substances do. Even nicotine and caffeine.
