Somehow I knew this would get linked to minorities.
We don't do that very well with the drugs that ARE legal, what makes you think that when we legalize highly addictive drugs like meth and cocaine that we would do better?
Do you really not know anything about drug laws? That's why drug laws came about, because of fear of
minorities. There's public records of this ****. Politicians would say things publicly like "we have to ban marijuana because it's what makes Mexicans so crazy" or "only blacks and Mexicans use this stuff and it makes them into sex crazed criminals".
I didn't link it to minorities, the politicians who created these oppressive laws did.

It's but only one reason. Esslinger was looking at his drug program being removed and turned to demonize pot to justify his department, which is where reefer madness came from. The Rockefeller's played a big role in the marijuana stamp act because hemp was the biggest opponent to their new get rich creation, plastic. I'm sure there are more examples but they are escaping me right now. Blaming it all on racism is false nonetheless

Racism was a big reason for the legislation passing. where there other issues, sure. But racism was a major factor.
I don't believe I called it the only factor, but if I did, I was wrong to say that.
Still it was a major factor.
Well, I don't know about steriods, but steroids certainly are. Of course they are abused... illegally... but so are pain killers. I see you would like for any drug to be abused with no consequence. There are always consequences. If you kill yourself, I couldn't care less, but the potential is to kill someone else in your quest to be high, and that I do have a problem with. Meth is a highly addictive drug, and your belief that making it legal will make it less dangerous is naive and just plain stupid.
And without the votes the legislation would have never passed. An argument could probably be made that without the racist sentiment that they would not have had the votes.
Absolutely not, that's why they had to demonize it. You made it sound as though the laws were racist at their core, the racism was just propaganda to garner votes.
How well have we been doing on them while they are illegal? They are still used and the war on drugs has been used to erode citizen rights and to increase the police state.
Not very well, that is true, but make meth and cocaine legal, and usage will probably increase. Probably. With that comes problems resulting from that, and that is where the danger to society lies. Like I said, I couldn't care less if he gets coked up and kills himself, it's when he takes an innocent bystander with him that I have the problem. Then you have the problem of having to support a habit of drugs that are expensive (insert his price coming down argument here). But when people do meth and coke they likely aren't going to work in any productive manner as these drugs do not lend themselves to "responsible" usage. So they burden society.
So? They do incredible damage to you.
And alcohol sure as heck does.
