one of the favorite volnation excuses when evaluating the current coach is the ole "look what he inherited" and while it's true that heupel inherited a mess just like every coach in the country to comes into a situation where the previous coach was fired, but it is now the middle of year 5.

none of the players heupel inherited are still playing for this team.

he's had multiple recruiting cycles to bring in top rated players

he won 10 games in his second season so clearly it's not a real excuse for lack of success.

scholarship limits were increased by 20 so any limitations placed on UT due to sanctions (which were actually incredibly small limitations to begin with) are basically a non issue anymore.

so should this excuse be tolerated on this message board again? should people who use this excuse be reported and banned from this place?
No but he did have a tough situation with losing your two NFL corners and having to replace Nico at QB. Looks like he is on pace for what was expected preseason with the two losses being Bama and UGA and had one beat.

I do not think a conversation about firing Heupel is in any way legitimate. I am unhappy about the sloppy play, the missed tackles, and the needless penalties that make it harder to win. We have 4 conference games left. Every one is winnable and every one is losable, depending on how well we minimize mistakes and play solid football. I believe this team has the talent to be unbeaten, but mistakes by coaches and players have cost us both games.
How many more losses due to mistakes is tolerable? THAT is the ?.

When we cut the lead to 23-13 Alabama went on a 99 yard drive.

When we cut the lead to 30-20 they went on a 75 yard drive.

A stop in either case would have given us the opportunity to make it a one score game, despite how poorly we had played.

We needed a stop, didn’t get it.
We did get the stop at 23-13 and gave the offense great field position, which was promptly squandered between a bad snap and dropped pass.

Of course it’s acceptable to say that, it’s true, Heupel inherited a crappy situation. The question really is why is that being talked about? If it’s to acknowledge the great job he’s done building us up or using it as perspective to realize how far we’ve come from a really bad 15 year stretch, then it makes sense to say. If it’s used to explain poor play or decisions today, then no, it would not make sense.

I think the Nico situation was not tough in the end. UT got the very good side of that deal. even with losing some defensive players to the NFL I believe we still had the talent to be undefeated right now. They scored 21 on Georgia in just the first quarter and this was probably the most beatable Bama team in a generation. all we had to do was not suck. Poor execution and poor coaching has left us where we are, NOW if they win out and go 10-2 then all is OK and they met most people's expectations. but having seen this team live those preseason expectations rightfully went up when everyone saw how good Aguilar was and how many points we were scoring. people have the right to change their expectations.

Not ideally. But an am I fine with half of Bama’s total yards coming from 2 drives only took 11:28 off the clock, yes I am.

Our defense gave up 4 scoring drives which were less than half of the total number of possessions Bama had.

It’s rather simple. Had the offense played to their average, we win that game. The offense crapped the bed. The defense played fine.
Bless your heart

We are still on probation, and I believe short a fee scholarships. So yes he still has an excuse.

Nico leaving was also not part of the plan.

Losing Nico wasn’t a big deal because Heupel brought in Aguilar. Gotta give him credit for that.

I have no clue what you’re talking about. No one expected him to have won against Bama twice in his first four years. Most of us thought it would take him four or 5 years to get to that level.

What exactly are you complaining about?

It’s year 5 and this coach refuses to make adjustments in the program to get us to a point where we field a competitive team on the road.

And that has zero to do with the state of the program he inherited.

No one is blaming the program he inherited for last night. That’s a strawman

What adjustments are you claiming he refuses to make
