Is it just me...

if it was true that you were the greatest fanbase in the history of mankind (ridiculous) does it make any sense whatsoever that a medium that makes money by the most people possible watching their programs, or reading their newspapers, would actually chose to anger that fanbase?

Can any damn fan base call themselves "the greatest of all time"? That isnt what Vollygirl was saying at all. We have a supremely confident new coach, we just pulled in a great recruiting class in 2 months that included the #1 player in the country, we are on ESPN and in the media more than any other team this year, all while coming off of one of the worst seasons in our programs history. If it were UF or UGA in this position, our fan base would be "hating on" them also. All this will go away, and all these loud mouth journalists will be kissing CLK's backside if we get back to winning 9-10 games every year like we are used to doing. I am not cocky enough to think other fan bases are "jelous" of UT or anywhere else.....but we are a Top 10 all-time program for a reason.

Its cyclical, like all media coverage. Twenty years ago the media made fun of Florida, never quite able to compete with Miami and FSU, soft, not enough big tough guys on the line, getting in trouble here and there.

But then Spurrier came and he was the guy everyone loved to hate, amusing, made you laugh. And Florida was popular.

Then we had the Zook years and it was all about how we were back to also-ran status, no athletes in the skill positions.

And then you have the intriguing story of Leak and Tebow coming in, Meyer was interesting given his apparent turn down of Notre Dame for the UF job, and they were successful. And so was the basketball team at the same time, and Tebow has been so entertaining.

The media is a like a school of fish, rushing from one side to the next. Florida will find itself on the outs again soon enough and UT will be the media darlings once again at some point.

Hey LG, did Zook really miss a game because he was stuck in a door?

He missed a lot of games where he was actually standing on the sidelines.

ZING!

And Vollygirl.....I have to absolutely disagree with you about UT's fanbase somehow being "above" the likes OSU, Texas, OU, etc. I live in Columbus, OH currently and have lived in Austin, TX as well. Their fans are just as passionate, rabid and informed as UT fans are. All big time schools with a lot of tradition have great fan bases.....too often people let the "idiots" in those fan bases form their opion of them, while ignoring their own.

They really hate us. I think in part because of the fan base. Name another one who has loved their team as long as we have, loved a team that's been as relevant as often as the Vols have, and has the history and tradition that the Vols have. People are envious of that.

This is a joke right?!?

Well if we all agreed, the board wouldn't be any fun, would it? :eek:k: But I never said UT was "above" those teams. I just think we're something special.

Really? Cause when I travel I don't see those teams represented like I do the Vols. But if you think their fan base is equal to Tennessee, ok.

We're all special. Just like everyone else.

All I am saying is Tennessee does not have the market cornered on tradition or fan support. What makes Tennessee your team and my team is our own personal connections to Tennessee, both the state and institution. If I went to Marshall, I would love my team just as much.

Look at the trolls that come here. They think their team is just the bee's knees too.

If other fanbases eat it up and it boosts ratings. Fans of other programs love to hate Kiffin. And that's good for the media, because it gives them something to talk about in the offseason.

I don't know if there really is a media bias against UT, but it certainly feels like it sometimes. I'm not sure about everyone else, but Bama fans definitely think the world is against them.

How about Notre Dame:

* Won 8 AP and/or Coaches National Championships (forget Alabama’s 12. If they acknowledged everyone who voted them #1 like Bamma does, it would be to many to count)

* The 2nd highest winning percentage in NCAA history

* The 3rd most wins of any program in NCAA history

* 7 Heisman trophy winners

* Produced more All-Americans than any other NCAA program

* Has 10 NFL Hall of Famers

* Has an exclusive contract with NBC.

* and Touchdown Jesus, 4 Horsemen, Golden Dome, Knute Rockne, Rudy, Golden Helmets, etc, etc, etc.

They have also lost like the last 10 bowls games too, is that a record?
