Or does downtown Knox need more hotels? I mean there are about 3 close to the stadium and all are super expensive. It should not cost me $250-300 to stay in downtown Knoxville. Just sayin.

That's why I rent houses on the lake for road trips. $600 for 2 nights. 3/4 couples and a house party on Friday. Bloody marys and breakfast in the kitchen on Saturday.

We have a group and go together on a multibedroom cabin in the smokies and caravan over for many games.

Also when I'm looking to save some money we get a hotel in strawberry plains and drive in. They offer a shuttle from the fairfield in SP if you want to get drunk before and after and no one wants to drive. Our room at the fairfield for the Buffalo game was 80 bucks (after tax) and they have an indoor pool and good breakfast. Oh and flat screens in every room too.

This is the way to do it. Although I do a cabin in gatlinburg vs the lake. Either way, makes for a helluva weekend.

Yeah but the problem is I like setting up a sick tailgate all day and don't want to drive far afterwards.

wrong. But they all make a ton of cash on these weekends. It is that way in all cities that have events downtown. To the OP did you try the Hotel St. Oliver?

Yeah, I heard about it but heard it was kind of "strange".

How often do the shuttles operate?

I don't know. I really like the aspect of staying close to downtown so I can walk to the local pubs, etc. I guess you just have to pay the price for doing that. I suppose I could stay out farther and just call a cab, but it sucks if you want to set up a tailgate all day Saturday. No one wants to leave their car in a parking lot.

I just never stay downtown. North of town (Merchant Dr. area), the hotels are plentiful and cheap, but a little run down. West of town they are new and nice but more expensive (still cheaper than downtown). Look at the Cedar Bluff area west of Knoxville. Lots of hotels, shopping, restaurants, etc.

It is a historic hotel in the heart of downtown. They just remodeled it so it should have nice rooms. Nothing strange about it, just not a Holiday Inn type room.

I would be willing to bet that all the dtown hotels rarely sellout at the same time. i have been wrong before though, many times.

I'll go along with one of the other posts, if all you want is a nice room and don't mind traffic and distance... Hit up the Turkey Creek area. Plenty of restaurants and hotels. Bars and such, not so much.

there are many events that sell rooms. I was saying wrong to that there is nothing going on here in the off season.

The Oliver used to be owned by a weirdo and in disrepair, but since it's been renovated and under new ownership it's pretty nice.

I have to walk past it every time I go to work at Cafe4 in the square

You would be surprised. Many times over the last few years I have tried to make reservations about a week before arriving only to find that nothing was available, and as far as I could tell, nothing major going on.

It seems to be more of a combination of smaller events (weddings, conventions, etc).

There is the Marriott, the Crowne Plaza, the Hilton, the Hampton Inn, the Holiday Inn, the Sheraton/Four Seasons, and the St. Oliver. That really isn't a huge number of rooms and outside of game weekends, most have rooms for around $100.

When I was in school, I would rent out my studio apt on game weekends and crash on a friends couch. I could cover my rent and have a little extra for....entertainment.

I paid $65 for a room on Friday night. A guy was checking in Saturday when I was checking out and they were charging $120 for a comparable room becuase it was game day
