I can see it being awkward. Aranda is already known for being "different." Mad scientist who doesn't speak a lot, mixed in with a loud Cajun man who doesn't speak with the utmost clarity lol. Insert anyone in here and it's probably already a weird dynamic.

But yeah, probably the right move by LSU. Canada will fit in nicely. Nice pick up for you guys.

ok :eek:lol: an agent sending out feelers is what they do that is hardly a damning allegation for a coach on a "hot seat". The boosters get to have a say in who is hired but they do not get a cent from ticket sales. You are speaking in generalities from message boards you read. I have heard the same quotes I just gave you straight from Big Jimmy Haslam's mouth as well as a couple others worth several hundred million.

You're absolutely right. He has underachieved and wasted the talent he has had. Can you imagine what even Fulmer or Richt could have done with this team much less a Saban or Urban type coach. I really don't think a new QB is going to hurt us in the least. He will have the pieces around him to succeed as long as new hires are made that actually know what to do with the talent that is here. We were very lucky to not have lost to App. St,GA,Ohio and even Va.Tech.We were extremely lucky to be 8-4, imagine the heat Butch would be under had we gone 6-6 or 5-7. Hopefully new assistants will be hired and they will be allowed to do their job but knowing Butch he won't stay out of their face and just let them coach. Us not winning the East after beating UF and UGA is a feat not many coach's could have pulled off. Butch had to work very hard at not making the SEC Championship game or not getting to the Sugar Bowl. But if he is here next season if we go 8-4,7-5 or worse then that tells me that our AD department is fine with underachieving and mediocrity. But hoping with a full overhaul in that department changes how things have been done in the past. But I'm hoping offseason changes gets everything right and we get out of this level of mediocrity. But right now I have little confidence in Butch. Hopefully that changes.

Haaaahaaaa..ok Bro..I'm betting you haven't but if that makes you feel pretty then by all means preach on brother. But nobody is buying it and no chance 8-4 or worse next season doesn't begin a new coaching search. But thanks for that high level info you think up!! And it was definitely more than feelers Butch was trying to get the hell out of here because he can't handle the stress and what is expected from the HC in Knoxville.

So sending feelers out to jobs that are about 3 steps down and pay significantly less (other than Oregon, of course) is common practice?

Let me know when Jon Gruden gets here, you were right there with the other "insiders" claiming Gruden was all but a done deal? Whatever happened to those other "insiders"? Coaches who want out don't generally sign massive buyouts and ask for extensions nearly every year but then again you read on Volnation that he was "wanting" to leave so it must be true.

I'd say an 8-4 season 2017 would be hotly debated amongst the fans, so I'm really hoping the team doesn't end up there next year. There are just so many variables on how the team would have gotten to that record next year when you look at the schedule. A decent contingent of fans might give that record a pass IF the losses are at Florida, Alabama, home to LSU, and perhaps an OOC loss at Ga Tech. It's my guess that BJ wouldn't overcome 7-5. The program is gone beyond that as acceptable. 9-3 shows some progress even if the losses are to all three rivals. Really a shame that they're playing an away game against a decent opponent first game of the season. Like I said in another thread 8-4 is a tough one to gauge in 2017. I agree that he cannot lose to Missouri, USCe, Kentucky, or Vandy or any other game the Vols would right now be favored in. At the same time, I think your remarks are spot on about the emotional dissatisfaction of the fan base when showing what BJ's record would be against our 3 rivals if the team does an ofer next year to them. 1-4 to Florida is especially unacceptable when you consider how beatable they've been the last few years. 0-5 to Alabama while it makes me crazy is understandable. A lot of SEC coaches are 0 and something to the Tide.

You have access to Boosters and everything AD related so you tell us? But you don't inquire about the Purdue job or any others that are steps down if you can't handle what is being asked of you. Those are desperate actions from a man who is way out of his league and comfort zone. He won't be able to handle the criticism of another 8-4 or worse type season.

Well that would be hard wouldn't it if it never really happened other than an agent trying to get a raise, now wouldn't it? Never claimed to know everything within the AD but you can continue to visit Volquest and let us all know what Brent Hubbs thinks.

I absolutely agree and being 0-5 against Ala shouldn't get anyone fired. But being 1-4 vs a very average UF team,3-2 at best vs Vandy,3-2 at best vs Mizzou,3-2 at best vs GA and most likely 0-10 vs the West is a different story. We really should beat GA Tech in the opener next year based off our talent compared to them but they have the better HC advantage. But 8-4 next year with losses to Ala,LSU then 2+ losses of any combo to average or worse teams such as UF,GA,GA.Tech,Vandy,SCe,UK or Mizzou will be the end for Butch. I want this to work and not have to go through another coaching change but I'm not sure he is willing to make the necessary changes or if he will ever be able to handle the pressure that comes with the job. If he thinks 8-4 and and getting to a bowl game is sufficient then he better go ahead and start looking for his next C.Michigan or Cincinnati gig. It's great we have atleast gotten back up being competitive in the SEC but it can't stop there nor will us Vol Fans be content with it. Nor should we be. There is just no reason we shouldn't be winning the East. Mizzou won it twice in their first 3 years in the SEC then McElwane has won it his first 2 years as HC with back up QB's and QB transfers. Butch has NO excuse at all.

Yep. Tennessee is not a middle of the conference program that occasionally slips into the top 25. Now it has been that or much worse since the start of 2008, but that is not the history of this program. It's time to step back into the limelight. To me, that means beating an average Florida team in Gainesville, winning against an LSU team at home, and YES, ending that streak by 2018 vs. Bammer.

Seems like a solid hire. I didn't even know the guy much until last week when I got info that he was in the mix. After watching some film of Pitt I can see the interest, actually the formations are very similar to what LSU does when not in the I. Of course, the options off of the formations are quite different.

Yeah, I can see that point of view, he has a lot to live up to. I can say this though... there was drastic improvement in LSU after Les was let go. Whether it was special teams or the offense or lack of penalties, or just being more organized.

Although the Florida game was probably kind of let down, it really did look like LSU was back to playing Tiger football after he took over. If we are going to give the coach all the blame for the bad play, at some point you have give him a little credit for the good play.

I'm glad to see Coach O and Ensminger will continue to be on staff... they earned their money this year. Whether Coach O will earn being the coach long-term is yet to be proven.

Its not like there is whole bunch of coaches I would have liked to see take over anyhow.
