Is Helfrich @ OC a legit discussion?

What's very intriguing is the fact that FootballScoop acknowledged Wes Rucker mentioning Butch making staff changes and stated that "the coaching community is already aware of a couple changes coming. Just hard to say it when the guys are still working."

Also, if Lane takes the LSU OC job, wouldn't that just put Alabama in a position to take Helfrich from us?

Saban has Sark waiting. Also, who knows if Kiffin will even leave Bama. Is it a done deal?

Sark and Bama ain't happening. Saban and Sark didn't click. Also some rumors of off-field issues too. It'll be interesting to see who they go with because it seems like no matter what Lane is done after the playoffs. I imagine he'll be at LSU, which sets up well for us to get Helfrich.

really don't have a feel for that.. too many questions..

what salary will he want? Will new AD be willing to pay it?? Buyout considerations?

If new AD comes in and Butch has an ultimatum on next season then AD is not going to invest dollars (especially large buyouts) in assistants.

Just too many questions right now and too many dynamics to know for certain how it goes.

question, the higher we are willing to pay him wouldnt that make the amount oregon has to pay him lower? so why could we get him at a decent price for a year or so and if he does good we can renegotiate his contract?

With Kiffin taking the Florida Atlantic job, it would be interesting to see if Kiffin goes after Helfrich as his OC.

With Rumors swirling that LSU is zeroing in on Matt Canada for their OC vacancy, shouldn't that put us in a better position for Helfrich?

I know BAMA has an opening at OC now, but I don't think Helfrich is a fit for what Saban wants. Plus he's not gonna make any moves til after their season concludes. Butch needs to get on this...

I doubt that buTch will do anything until after the Bowl game is over.

Then everything will hit the fan fast.

Buckle up and hang on tight my friends.

VFL...GBO!!!

Nobody worth his salt is coming to coach with the dead man walking.

The jig is up...the coaching community has Butch's number.

I think you are overestimating the temperature of CBJ's seat. While I am hardly confident that he'll ultimately succeed, I believe it is a real possibility that he'll be around a few more years.

For example, if he wins 8-9 games in the regular season next year, I think it is unlikely that he is fired.

Of course, I could be wrong.

I am still a Butch supporter. But I am not underestimating the situation either.

Most supporters tolerated the "slow starts" this season, waiting for the dominate team they should have been to materialize. It never happened. Yes we beat Florida and Georgia, but we were suppose to. We were suppose to dominate Appy State and Ohio. We didn't. Then the losses to South Carolina and Vanderbilt happened. Even the staunchest supporters Butch has won't tolerate that.

After the regular season ended, Butch stated a complete review of the program would happen, and necessary changes would follow. He will be playing with an unproven QB, different RBs, and new team leaders. He will also be playing next season under a new AD, not one who has turned in his notice. Without substantial improvement, Butch best realize his cliches and spin have worn out the fan base's tolerance and sense of humor.

How things went down for Les Miles at LSU this year might serve as a warning to Butch. This off season is key for his future. He is still our coach, and I still support him. But if the improvements he promised aren't obvious next season? I have doubts he will survive.

It would be interesting who would come here knowing that if they don't win the SEC in a certain amount of time that they will be fired. Outside of Saban and Meyer's I don't know of any coach that could guarantee an SEC championship. Having said that, I believe in Butch though. Good teams every year lose games like we did but also beat good teams like we did (Florida).

I think most underestimate the ego of the "type a" people that are good coaches. Most would probably look and say "Wow with that talent and the easy side of the SEC I could be set!" If they feel they cant get it done then they are probably not going to be very successful anyway!

Is this Helfrich thing a real possibility or just some pipe dream like the "Big Fish" in the recruiting forum? I haven't heard him say anything about Debord stepping down or be a Co-Coordinator.

I'm seeing a lot of stuff about Helfrich possibly being courted to Tennessee as an offensive coordinator. I think it would be a home run hire obviously, but is this at all possible? Butch would have to actually be a little more open with his staff if he were hired. Hopefully Butch can delegate a little more.

Isn't going to happen - this is UT - home of the "Champions of Life" where according to former players going 8 & 4 is overachieving.

They should change name from Tennessee Volunteers to Tennessee Life Champions. More mediocrity to come.

Go root for Alabama. They love whiny bandwagoners...

LWS has said Butch has spoken to him and Debord is still a possibility to retire soon. Definitely a real possibility. Would be a huge hire. We absolutely have got to get a QB Coach

I doubt we'll hear anything on these OC position until after the bowl game, likely second week of January. Shoop was announced Jan 12th. Looks like we won't have competition from LSU, appears they are going to make a large offer to Matt Canada. I see Ole Miss is considering Sterlin Gilbert, which would be a good get for us if we are in play there.
