Is Helfrich @ OC a legit discussion?

I don't think it's laughable.

It could be wrong but nothing Butch has done seems to imply he can break through.

Its laughably false because its just so absurd to state something like that as if its fact.

What Butch has nothing to do with something he may or may not do in the future. Its like saying, if you didnt win the lottery this year, you never will. That's demonstrably stupid and false.

Him winning more than 10 and me hitting the lotto have about the same odds lol.

Helfrich would be a great hire that might be the guy to get UT to atl. Unfortunately, I don't think that is realistic. I hear theres more of a chance chip kelly comes back to Oregon and helfrich takes OC job under him. But would be an awesome OC here if it was possible.

Tell me what he's done that proves he will.

He had a golden opportunity to win 10 and SC and Vandy happened.

If you don't know there is no reason to have a discussion. You guys acting like he hasn't done anything impressive here is weird. But I'm not a guy that believes what the media tells me about how we should perform. That's just me and I get that's why some of you are so angry, you did depend on them. Those writer's make careless and unprofessional comments through out the season. As a matter of fact journalist's in general are not what they should be. Somebody should write articles about how much they underperformed this year.

Butch, go home. You're drunk.

Butch is putting together a staff full of potential "Interim HC". Some may be caught up in the big picture and don't fight hard enough for the players they want in the position group they coach. It's a "Rob peter to pay Paul" kind of deal when 40+ games are missed due to injury.

Shoop runs a Dline driven defense and that's hard to do when his Dline is watching from the trainer's table. He should have made everybody as good as Cam, JRM and Kirkland, he had all off season.

Win that bowl!

Go Vols!

And no one else. Mariotta made him, not the other way around. Helfrich has been a failure about identifying and developing successful quarterbacks. For Tennessee to hire this clown would be a major fail.

He was only there 4 years as HC and Mariota was his QB for 2 of those. He took a grad trasfer the past two seasons. Vernon Adams was a great college QB. Dakota Prukop, not so much.

Claiming he was a failure at idntifying and developing QBs isn't a fair criticism IMO. QB was only a problem in his final season, and even then, they were scoring enough points to win. You're being unfairly harsh in your judgement.

Never once did I discredit the things he's done here. I'm simply stated my opinion

The new AD might see something wrong. I'm sure the new ad will have a meeting with Butch and probably let him know what the expectations are...and probably point out some areas that need changing.
For 4 mil a year a coach shouldn't need to be told or have anything pointed out to him. You'd expect him "to know" and address matters,IMO.

I dont buy it. Until I see some sort of credible evidence that Helfrich has been in contact with Butch or has been interviewed, its another Grumor.

If he did come here, I wonder who Butch would hire as a QB coach?

This guy...

Surely when the stakes are this high the terms can be agreed to without putting a pen to paper until the time is right.

And don't call you shirley...

hard to agree to terms without the guy with the key to bank around to give okay (AD). not many coaches will agree to something like that if comparable options are available.

people dogging Shoop crack me up. You do know we played DE at the DT spot becuase they were all injured? Shoop is a good DC. I'll be excited for our D going forward unless Butch gets canned (unlikely).

Now if we could just get upgrades on Offensive side, then butchie could just be the face of the program letting the coordinators running the show

agree 100%
Add a s&c and Oline coach worth his salt, and I think we will be in good shape. (as long as Butch puts away his charts and stays out of his coordinator's way)

I'd do whatever it takes to get Helfrich here as the OC/QB coach... Then, once we (probably) under perform horribly again next year, Butch would be fired, and then whoever the AD is should throw the bank at Chip Kelly.

I think Kelly might come here knowing that Helfrich would once again be his OC. And I honestly think that Guarantano can be the next Mariota in Chip Kelly's offense with Helfrich coaching him up. Cause Helfrich was Mariota's QB Coach for two years.

Plus we'd already have the personnel at WR to run a fast paced offense like that with Tyler Byrd, Latrell Williams, Marquez Callaway, etc.

Man that would be a fun offense to watch.

I hate to have to preface my question this way because of all the negativity. So before anyone slams me I'm not being negative. Just asking a question.

Why would Helfrich come here? I think it would be awesome if he came here not only for his offensive mind but also his proven track record in developing QB's. But I can't find where he has ever been east of the Mississippi haha.

Is there a tie to CBJ or something else I'm missing?

I sure hope he does make Neyland his next office though!

I'll hang up and listen to your answers.....
