I know Guarantano is very highly touted and I'm excited to see him play, but I feel like Dobbs elusiveness and play making ability will be very hard to replace. I also still feel like Dormady can be great, but our O-line may make it less likely he's the answer.
i think both JG and QD are athletic enough to function just fine in this offense. do they have the physicality JD brought? probably not. by all accounts though, they may be better overall at throwing the ball.
it's still unknown if this O line could pass protect the way it may be needed to. it's also likely either of the two new qb's could be better with timing routes and getting the ball out faster....
anyway, lots of things to consider.
short answer, i don't think either will be as good of a natural, physical runner as Dobbs. that, though, may not be a bad thing in the long run.
I see Dornady as a pocket passer with great escapability.
From what I've heard JG is duel threat like Dobbs but more accurate with the pass an more elusive as a runner. Dobbs was more of a make you bounce off than a make you miss, although he made many miss and look foolish while missing or bouncing off.
If either is the real McCoy, 2017 could be really good.
I would expect Dormady to have a higher grade at making the right read, but if JG can be better at making the right read I think his raw talent will earn him the job. It all boils down to who can read it right an execute the play.
Seems like Dobbs was around 60%, but that was before this year. iirc.
16-1
Go Vols!
We're gonna experience a severe dropoff at the QB position next year, Dobbs was an amazing talent, and we're gonna miss him
QD also a pro-style QB per the recruiting services. Not really a "zone read" QB. But I am sure he will be around till next season as I do not believe that the staff will name a QB starter in spring.

If he can accurately pass, he will be light years more dual threat than Dobbs ever was. Dobbs wasn't a world beater in the passing the department vs quality competition.

I'm hoping Guarantano is more of a run - pass dual threat. Dobbs was more a run - run threat.
i think it's safe to say that maybe Dobbs rating was, um, off a bit?JG was the top rated dual threat QB in the nation coming out of high school (per 247). Josh Dobbs on the other hand was labeled a pro-style QB and was the #10 pro-style QB in the nation when he was a senior (per 247). JG has every bit the speed of Dobbs and can spin it.
Why do you clowns still say this myth?
Did you not watch the Vols this year?
Dobbs led the SEC in just about every passing category this year. Especially during league play. He was easily the best passing QB in the conference.
i say the same you you as you said to the guy you quoted lol... Not sure what folks were smoking watching Dobbs but the guy proved he has a legit arm.You usually post absurdity but I actually agree with you. The bashing of Dobbs' arm and ability as a passer is ridiculous and unfounded.
