Is Gruden a better coach then Dooley.

All this talk about John Gruden cracks me up. 3 weeks ago I was at a work-related conference and during one of the breaks I met a guy from Arkansas. We were sharing football sob stories and he told me that his wife's cousin worked in the Arkansas athletic department and the word is that they have already signed a secret deal with Gruden to be the next coach. I told him that was impossible because the word I heard was that Gruden had bought a house at Tellico Village.

Question - With all this talk for years about Gruden being a coach, has anybody ever heard Gruden talk about coaching in college?

When did I compare the two? I didn`t. Everyone keeps saying he has a superbowl ring which means nothing. Alot of people have superbowl rings and will never coach a college football team. So the man has a ring, it don`t mean diddly-squat.

So I guess this means if Gruden were to come to Tennessee (which he won`t) then we can expect to go undefeated and win the NC every year because the dude has a super bowl ring.

Yes.

Gruden > Dooley

No debate needed. For all the number Doolaiders put out,

Gruden still has a winning recored - Dooley does not
Gruden can coach QB's - Dooley, Not a chance
Gruden can teach fundamentals - Dooley has proven he can't


I could go on.

If Gruden will come be our coach, The Vols we take him.

The question should be is Gruden a better coach than Saban.

Also NFL and College is completely different. Gruden was a an offensive genius in the NFL. He used a complex playbook and wanted smart older NFL quarter backs so they could learn and execute it. College players have 20 hours a week max to spend with coaches, unless you plan on breaking NCAA rules.

Gruden had success in the NFL. Saban was a huge bust in NFL.

Yes Gruden is a better coach than Dooley, but is he a better college coach than Gruden is the real question?

It would be like a pipeline to the NFL through Tennessee. Just like Cal has at Kentucky a pipeline to the NBA. Gruden could get the type of players that Saban gets.

Recruits will want to play for Gruden because he's on MNF. That is insane.
