Is Fulmer really mad/hurt?

Of course Fulmer is mad. Can't blame him since he received a phone call Monday morning from someone on the Search Committee telling him he would get the job. The new Chancellor, Davenport, made a unilateral decision to hire Currie. Once again, our University has a buffoon as Chancellor. Let's just hope she doesn't eat her boogers during a News conference like our last Chancellor did.
This is why he is mad. Also the search committee met in Nashville and not all of them where there. One person said they didn't even get told about the meeting, I'm sure it was someone in Fulmers corner. I don't care if Fulmer didn't get the job or not but I'm sure more dirt will come out and this just proves how out of sync the university is.

Currie is a UT guy too. How do you know he doesn't bleed Orange? How do you know this isn't his dream job?

seriously...he bleeds power and money...dream job...:eek:lol:...the job that pays the most money is his dream job...he most definitely is not a "UT" guy...:eek:lol:

GO VOLS!

Peyton and Haslam are making the big dollar decisions for UT---hopefully it works out.

Sounds like he needs to be pissed at the Search Committee member that leaked fake news.

I was really mad too.............when we lost at Wyoming and she recruited us to some really bad seasons. Coaching is like selling, they don't ask how you did last year

Dude got 6 mil to walk away! How can any one be mad or hurt about that? It's not even as though he was really doing good when they fired him! That's like cheating on your girlfriend then slapping her for it and still being mad after her dad wrote u a massive check to just walk away and leave her alone!

Currie got his masters from UT, does that really make him a UT guy?

It follows that you can't possibly be a UT guy or gal if you didn't go to school here at all? I have two degrees from UT, married a VOL, and sent to kids to school there. Guess I'm 5 times the fan?

I'd say you're invested in the success of the University on many levels.

I have zero "ties" to UT. Could've gone there twice and didn't care to. I figured I needed a smaller school environment and I was probably correct. My only connection to UT is growing up in this state when there wasn't anything else to root for. I don't care about the school's academic reputation or how many lawsuits they get into. I don't care how nice the dorms are or how much research money they draw. I don't care about the Lady Vols logo, Boomsday, Time Out subs, or whether there's really wigs stored in the Sunsphere. I care pretty much only about how many football games they win in a given season.

He's not mad that he didn't get the job.

He's mad that he was asked to get involved, then mislead, then not told he didn't have a chance to get the job when the Chancellor put her foot down and said the hire HAD to be someone with prior AD experience and then gave him a token interview when Currie was already the guy.

That's what he's mad about and I think he's right to be mad, honestly.

getting strung along is really crappy

Really, what was Fulmer thinking? A former coach who had divided an entire fan base such as he did would have a shot? Was it Haslam and others that convinced him it was legit and no one else but the boosters controlled the situation? Did he forget about the given job for insurance that caused such an uproar?

Doesn't make sense to me! For the record I thought he simply got used and played in this deal.

Deerpark, if you are still around, I know it's been made out to look like this was the Chancellors hire, but I have been told that this was all Big Jim in a power move, was actually told that Davenport had a note waiting on her to take 5 to six days to get settled but that Currie had better be hired within her first couple weeks, have you heard anything along these lines?

If this happened then Fulmer and Manning knew before hand. Big Dollar Decisions equals Big Dollar Donations and Fixes if it does not work out.

Fulmer may end up in the same capacity as he would have for Blackburn. Easier decision to do so if above is true.

Again, he "interjected himself" into the AD search after being contacted and urged to do so and finding out that the guy he publicly endorsed from the get-go, David Blackburn, was not being considered for the job. He felt strongly that a "Tennessee guy (but now as we know, not named John Currie) should be the next UT AD. He wasn't doing it out of selfish motive, but rather love for a University and program that has been his life. As far as removing himself, why should he have? He was recruited to be the next AD, and as Hyams reported yesterday, he was pretty much assured that he was the guy right up until Peyton called him on Monday morning to let him know Currie had been hired.

I would like to know who the geniuses were that convinced Phil to "interject" himself into this mess. I doubt one of the people assuring him "he was the guy" was the chancellor. Seems those assuring him were the same guys who approached him in the first place.

The one part nobody can argue with; This has been one Mell of a hess.

Witch Doctor say this truly shows why we are not elite and wont be if all this is true. Cant have a bunch of idiots at the top and expect the troops to win the war on guts alone. I know all University has problems but Tennessee's Admin is documented for years now goes back WELL before Fulmer and half the women in the AD dept out to destroy it. Dont hate Butch, thank God we have him..who else wants the job..no one. We are middle league team, always have been and going to be until these people retire or die off.

Using the criteria from some of you, since Robert Neyland didn't have a degree from UT, I guess he wasn't a UT guy......Ray Mears either.

I enjoy taking in the Paul Finebaum show watching SEC fanbases and commentators line up to dissect The University of Tennessee's issues. Among them, the keystone cop like approach to administrating a universities sports programs oblivious to how it looks to the neighbors. The big question...aren't they aware or are they and just don't care they're laughed at?

The question is mislead by whom?

With the changes in leadership, there is no doubt there is a lot of power brokering going on among the big donors and others who have and/or think they should have a voice in everything.

It's possible, if not likely, that CPF was getting information from someone who thought they were a player in this game but, in fact, were not.

I imagine he'll lay low for a while and come out smiling for the University. I just can't imagine him doing anything else.

So now the spin is he was 'asked' to get involved. Uh huh. He wanted the power, didn't get it, and is pouting. And so many of you are convinced he puts UT first. Naive.

From my perspective, it would appear that our UT leadership (from President, to BoT, to Big $$ boosters) is a clusterfawk, wrapped in a circlejerk, inside a goat rodeo.

I miss the leadership and common sense of Dr. Andy Holt and Dr. Joe Johnson.

But what do I know, I'm just an ol' Vol Geezer.

Witch Doctor love UT up on side and down the other..BUT, this admin stuff is killing us. Just like Currie, its NOT that they hired HIM, its how they did it. In the future when we need a coach..any sport, they way they DID this will be known by the coaches agent and Tennessee looks like a school that would blindside you. NO matter how you feel about the Fulmer Firing a few years back ( I was for it!) Everyone thought we were dumb for doing it( maybe we were) and now you lead on an ex coach and another AD to think they had it...DM said it yesterday when big coach hire turns us down...its going to be things like this the reason why..I support Currie, but dont burn bridges to make it happen.
Go Vols
Bones Never Lie.

I think our Admin lives in a bubble or something...

The ONLY way this crap will stop is to hire a guy like Saban.....who has enough cred to come in and tell everyone "hands off" and he will run the show...

Who has that kind of cred and wants to come to UT?

The "pencil-necks" as I call them--guys like Cheek, Hamilton, Currie, and now Davenport are all about a "new social order" in the progressive world of academia...and fundraising speaks louder than skill and knowledge about SPORTS...(like Hamilton)...

It's not just about HOW they did it...it is about WHO they hired, too!!!

Hiring Fulmer, in their eyes, would have been taking a step "backwards" to what they perceive to be an "old and antiquated system."

I mean--some of the jack-legs posting in this forum make fun of Saban being a control freak and all he does is WIN, WIN, WIN...At least Bama is smart enough to leave him the heck alone and celebrate his wins!

But it's because he is just GOOD, GOOD, GOOD at being a program administrator and COACH...

WHO out there is that good and has that cred and wants to come to UT??

Until that happens....CBJ is the bar for us--MEDIOCRITY with a lot of HYPE...but very little production
