The question is mislead by whom?
With the changes in leadership, there is no doubt there is a lot of power brokering going on among the big donors and others who have and/or think they should have a voice in everything.
It's possible, if not likely, that CPF was getting information from someone who thought they were a player in this game but, in fact, were not.
I imagine he'll lay low for a while and come out smiling for the University. I just can't imagine him doing anything else.
Either Charlie Anderson, who was his lone advocate in the search committee, or President DiPietro, who he's been working with doing fundraising for the last year and a half or so ..... those would be my guesses.
Clearly it wasn't anyone named Haslam, since Big Jim is clearly the one who made the final decision, just like he has for the better part of 40 years now on all major hiring decisions.
