I'd say it's a possibility.

"We've got an opportunity in front of us now to mix it up a little bit and find whoever the next guy at Tennessee is going to be. It's a pretty exciting time for me."

I realize he obviously meant OC, but he did say "next guy."

So even if you don't think that quote means anything, what are the chances our next OC eventually ends up at the head coaching spot?

I'm sure he will use that as a selling point.

However Hamilton has stated Fulmer want's to retire as the HC with the most wins at UT. To catch Neyland he needs most likely 4 more years.

So if they are willing to wait 4 years for Fulmer to retire.............

I'd say for a young coach it'd be a pretty sweet gig to be OC for 4 years to get equipped with the program and then to take over ala Bobby Bowden's current situation.

i like the idea of fulmer as a figure head for the program, providing stability to our program. I also like the idea of hiring someone who MIGHT be the next head coach. I think this is a perfect opportunity to hire someone with that in mind.

I've mentioned him before, but I really like Major Applewhite (no mancrush here). I think he'll be a great coach somewhere, but I'd say whenever he could go to Texas he'd be gone in a heartbeat.

This is going great for FSU right now.

Is CPF willing to hire someone who could be a threat to replace him sooner than he plans? Ala Majors.

Another bad year might be all it would take, if a viable replacement is at hand.

I think that if UT is to bring in a high profile coordinator with an already pretty decent gig they are almost gonna have to promise that the said OC will be the next HC when PF retires which honestly shouldn't be any more that 3-4 years as mentioned earlier.

based on what? Also make sure ULM is not on our schedule before he signs the papers
Absolutely agree, is being young the only criteria. Their are 100 better young coaches out there, who are better than Applewhite, right now. Down the road he may prove himself. That would be some leap of faith to bring someone like that in. Chris Hatcher has a much better resume at this point. The only reason that Gus Mulzahn is getting more looks, 2 years out of high school. He may be something specail in the future, but again would be some leap of faith to take someone like that.

We were just throwing names out there. I like what I've seen so far out of him, but no one expects him to be the new OC. And sometimes you have to take a chance, if you wait til they have an established track record then it may be to late to get that person.

He wouldn't come here. Why would he leave a head coach who actually has had assistants that ascend the career ladder and pass up an annual chance to butcher Fulmer mascot Larry Slade's secondary every season?
