Is Fulmer being out coached?

I heard a good example on the radio today with whats wrong with the present coaching staff at UT.

A caller to Bob Stoops asked him about a double reverse he ran. Stoops said the saw how other teams when they ran a reverse would be "yelling reverse" and stop fit or a short gain. So he said, I just used it against them, I ran a double reverse and it worked great.

Thats part of UT's problem. UT runs reverses and when they dont work they never seem to take advantage of why they didn't work.

UT had no running game Saturday, why not hand it off to Foster let him step up and then pitch it back to Ainge and let him throw it downfield to Brown. Who would ever expect that from UT. UT never takes advantage of the other team overplaying.

Lucas Taylor to Coker in 06? The coaches do it, just not nearly enough

Exactly. That worked great nobody expects it. They did it in a bowl game with Cedric Wilson and there wasn't anybody within 10 yds of the receiver. Nobody ever expects UT to be creative.

That is what is so frustrating is that the talent is there yet never utilized. Pisses me off

Again... they telegraph whenever they are running a "trick play" just based on the personnel that comes in. If we played Vinson and Moore more than just a few snaps a game, we would be better able to disguise what we are doing. But if you only bring them in on one play, then everybody in the stadium is going to be ready for some trickeration. The Lucas Taylor/Ainge lined up wide play was easily telegraphed. The reverse to Vincson, the 2 plays on 4th down this year with Crompton... no element of surprise anywhere.

I'd like to have seen this as well, however the downfield to Brown part might have been an issue Sat. Fulmer mentioned the pinky tonight on Vol Calls when addressing why no downfield passing game. Although he then said they are almost through the pinky issue.

Guys, when our personel dictate to the other team what we are doing 95% of the time, being creative isn't an option for us. I mean, I didn't expect Crompton to run that QB sneak he did on 4th down.

Trick plays are always good, but when you can't even run a regular play right, why try?

i think thats part of the reason regular plays don't work, everybody is overplaying them so much because they never run anything unusual or creative. If UT ran a double reverse it would probably go for 20 yds just because everybody expects the reverse from UT.

What if UT ran a WR screen and instead of having the WR take off have him throw it back to ainge on the other side of the field for a QB screen. They could run that on the 20 and go for 80 yds. Don't you think that would make the defense think twice about overpursueing the WR screen?

You got to get a single reverse to work first.

Wait... did you or didn't you expect Crompton to run it?

I know I remember saying "another qb sneak" when he came out there...

I think new posters should be required to read through all the threads before they are allowed to post....
