They will be a contender in the east for at least 3 more years even if the stadium sinks into the swamp. But this notion of them assuming a BCS spot preseason is done for awhile.

I think the whole "leave of absence" has to be connected to recruiting for now....every single bit of the press conference was about all the "family" "love" "success" and powerful presence Florida has become in College Football. I don't think their reign is over but will prove them not to be so dominate.

I don't think they'll be completely uncompetitive and like Vanderbilt, but i think they'll be second in the East until Kiffin is gone.

The whole "he will stay on in a capacity in a yet to be determined position related to the program" was the first attempt to do damage control. That didnt soothe many hearts. The leave of absence is the next attempt. This is a sinking ship and they are just trying to plug the holes.

This year's Gator recruiting class will end up a bunch of kids that wouldn't be offered at most other SEC schools. Meyer and Foley have basicaqlly killed their own recruiting as long as Meyer is there. Who wants to play at UF with a crazy guy at the helm or the crazy at the helm that can't decide from day to day whether he's gonna be there or not? Meyer needs to talk it over with Oprah, maybe she could get him some counseling?

They'll still be good (9-10 wins), but them taking the SECE every year and going to a NCG every couple of years is over. Bama has caught up and passed UF. UT is showing signs of catching up, and quick. FSU's future is very closely intertwined with UF's. If FSU does well, UF will have a tougher time winning recruits from FSU, Miami, UT, Bama, LSU, etc.

3-4 years ago their dominance of the Florida recruiting game was without contention. All of these things will play a factor in their downturn. Again, they will still be one of the SEC and the NCAA's elite schools, but their uncontested reign over the SEC and NCAA is over with.

Very, very good post. Dead on in my opinion.

Yeah, it is over (hopefully).

They will always be good because of the recruiting hotbed that is Florida, but I don't think they will be dominating the SEC like they have since Urban has been there.

Like I said, they are still going to be good. I don't think there is any doubt about that, but winning the SEC and playing for the national championship every other year is hopefully not in their cards. The Vols are on the rise to contend for the east and if they do happen to win the east they will still have to get past bammer (or whoever wins the west).

They already took a step back this year after losing their OC, Harvin and Louis Murphy. Now they lose their long time DC, Jesus, Spikes and a lot of others, not to mention CUM's status being in limbo.

I don't see how they don't take another step back after all these losses.

If Urban is still around for a few years he will have them back, but for now their run is over. They could very likely start another run in a few years.

Next year they have to play Bama and LSU from the west. I think they will have at least 3 losses next year.

It still won't be remotely close to the past 4 years.

I don't think CUM has any serious health problems that a couple of million $$$$ won't cure. I think the fact that Saban makes more money eats at Urbie and then he got his nose rubbed in it at the SEC championship. UF will renogiate his contract and he will make an amazing recovery.
Tom Lugenbill was just on ESPN and said that UF currently has the #1or 2 recruiting class in the country and I realize that is subjective depending on who is doing the talking.

They'll have talent, but I'm very much doubting his staff will be able to outwork Kiffin/Saban.

Urban Meyer has always been a great coach, but I don't think things will be the same. Florida's offense completely dropped off without Harvin and Mullen this year, even with what some consider to be one of college football's greatest players leading the way. Now Strong is gone as well. They have talent coming in, but they still lose a whole bunch of talent, and I'm not sure the new guys will be as good. Add that to the fact that Meyer will likely never be the same. Recruits won't be sure how long he'll be here, and I don't think he'll be able to coach as well with concerns for his health. I think that next year the East is wide open, then after that it's Kiffin vs Saban.

100% agree

National Championship-wize....Yes!!!

SEC Championship-wize...No, Much like the game, the season will be a dogfight. They lose 2-3 games (we will too), and it comes down to UT or UF for the SEC East.

Vague question.

Barring something like a multi-year NCAA probation with post-season and TV bans, UF will always be able to hire a great coach and attract great players. UF can field a top five recruiting class every year totally made up of in-state players.

UF is not gonna fall off the map, but the next 5 years will not provide the same results, as the previous 5.

Yes---they are losing most of their top talent and coaches. You can't win forever.
