Is Florida the most important game of 2015?

Absolutely. They have the longest winning streak against us. I remember when we couldn't beat Alabama as a kid in the 1980s. They had an 11 year win streak against us. They would be underdogs and still beat us. It was terrible. Then we went on to have a nice, long streak against them.

We need to win this year and win big. It's a huge hurdle for team 119.

We beat Florida, but if College Gameday shows up, uh oh. I hope they are somewhere else that weekend.

Go Vols!

Is there any viable excuse for the Vols to lose to Florida in 2015?

We've got to throw down the gauntlet. We've got to lay down a marker. It's Dale Carter 2 time. It's Peyton Manning to Joey Kent time.

It's the most important game of 2015. We've got to establish a new sheriff in the East. We've got to get this monkey off our back. We've got to let the world know that Butch has got this and McEnroe, McElway, whoever is coaching down there just picked the wrong time to try to make a name. It's gonna be 9 in a row the other way.

If the single focus of Butch, Debord, and Jancek from now until Sept 27th is defeating Florida, their minds are in the right place.

It will be Volmaggedon if we lose. It will be Mance Rayder riding to the Sunsphere with 100,000 mattresses and lighting the biggest fire the East has ever seen.

Beat Florida 2015. GBO!

Do you ever post anything besides stuff like this. Who cares if we win or loss against the Gators. One game is not the whole season. I want to see us make progress and be ready to make a serious run at SECCG AND POSSIBLE NATTY in 2016. We will still be incredibly young and inexperienced next year. Young teams tend to lose their composure at times, especially on the road in hostile environments.

I think we compete for the East next year. UGA plays Bama I believe next year so they may have a loss to Bama like we may suffer. We really need to beat UGA to have the head to head tie breaker. You really do not understand what games are important and what are not. Now do not get me wrong I want to win, but I will take a win over UGA if we have to split between the 2 games. Then take our chances with the rest of the schedule and maybe we can win the East. Lets just enjoy the fact that we are coming back and once again becoming a team in the national discussion in a positive way.

I think a win at Florida would give this team a mindset of being able to beat anybody. I know Florida isn't that great, but to us they are a bump we need to get past.

Every year that we "think" we should win, it turns out there's a good reason we shouldn't.

In 2012, we had no speed on defense and UF exposed it (although they also exposed our offense as being far too reliant on big pass plays).

In 2014, they sucked/were average everywhere except their defensive line, which was a nightmare for our immobile QB guarded by one of the worst offensive lines in FBS.

This season, we should win or tie at nearly every matchup on the field. There is truly no excuse to not beat them. That said, I'm still extremely hesitant to call it a win based on the history of the rivalry.
The Florida game has become more mental and coaching rather than a big talent gap...we should beat them next year on talent alone though.:good!:

Well, honestly speaking, I care if we beat them but that's just me.

UF loses two OL in Humphries and Moore and their best DE in Fowler to the NFL, and those three losses aren't included in the list above.

Barnett and Maggitt are the keys to this game. Their OL is going to be inexperienced and unchallenged. It will essentially be the reverse of last year's game, except unlike UF, we will actually have a very potent offense.

You never know. In October who saw Arkansas blowing out Ole Miss 30-0?

Good point, momentum will mean a lot. Later in the season, depth is an issue...especially this upcoming season as their is only one bye week for each SEC team.

Bringing back 18 starters, the earlier we play OK, Flo and Geo the better. Probably never is a good time to play o-bama but at least we get a bye week to prep. After o-bama, the only road block left is @Pinkels over-achievers.

I don't think 2 recruiting classes is enough to close the talent gap between us and UF. Defensively, they are still a better team than we are. The UF game is just another game on the schedule. It is no more important than any other game. If we win that will be awesome. However if we lose it will suck, VN will meltdown and the same Nancy's that predict a loss to UF every year will say the same crap as always.

I wonder if we are the only fan base who hinges the success/failure of the whole season on one game?

If we do get a chance to win this is the only game I would ever support running up the score.

Don't stop if it is 80-0 in the fourth with 11 minutes to play keep going for the throat.

All though I do not see this being anywhere even within the realm of possibility.

I actually don't think we have a prayer until 2016.

If for some reason Butch pulls it off Go ahead and name a street after him.

Things WILL change this year. We will slow everyone down with this D. Hopefully everyone on the O will be healthy, have both knees and both hands, to be able to compete evenly. SEC east WILL be tight this year. Heads are gonna roll .

The Vol's have beaten Florida how many times in 30 years?
I know it sounds like the Vol's record against Kentucky. No?

We don't. Hinge success/failure on one game, that is. Not even two games. Tennessee has too many important rivalries to focus on just one. Florida is huge. Bama is huge. Georgia is huge. And though we whup dey azz most years, Vandy is big, too (for proof, look how embarrassing it is when we don't).

I went to school at a place that had just one big rivalry, a game that the whole rest of the year came in second place to. Army versus Navy. Crazy how lopsided a year's worth of football can get when a single game is more important than the rest combined.

Tennessee does not have that disease, thankfully. :)
