Is Florida the most important game of 2015?

When I started following the Vols in the 60's, Florida had only beaten UT once in history. But when we started playing them every year under the new schedule alignment, and Spurrier took over, we almost never beat them.

I used to loathe Spurrier because we couldn't beat him and he always rubbed it in. But the ones I should have loathed were the coaching staff at UT for NOT being able to scheme against Spurrier's offenses to at least slow them down enough to give us chances in some of those games.
Now, I respect and like Spurrier and actually pull hard for USC east when they are not playing the Vols.

I supposed it's easier to criticize your own than give credit where credit is due to your rival. Spurrier revolutionized college football. Did any team in the SEC find a way to "at least slow them down enough"? Fulmer did pretty darn good against Spurrier @ Florida relative to what anyone else did. Let's not forget the last SEC team to win back-to-back SEC titles, in Spurrier's prime no less. But Tennessee's defense then wouldn't be relevant now, right? I think Miles and Sumlin would disagree.

A win against Florida is THE psychological hurdle our program needs to overcome to take that next step. Sure, Oklahoma is the first big game we play next year. It would be nice to exact revenge on them and it would show just how much we have improved since the defeat at their hands last year. But winning or losing that game isn't going to define where we stand in the Southeastern Conference. Whether we are a 4-0 or 3-1 heading into the battle with Florida, this is the game that we need to win to gain confidence and establish swagger heading into the meat of the SEC. If we lose to Florida, Tennessee will be in recovery mode and have to regroup quickly heading into the Arkansas, Georgia and Alabama games. I'd rather not have to do that. I'd rather us take care of business against Florida and build the confidence we need to win the SEC East. I'm not saying we're going to beat UGA and Alabama. But beating Florida will certainly give this team the mindset that it can win the SEC heading into those games. We have a lot of talent now. Perhaps we're not quite there yet to compete for a National Title. But we are on the cusp. Beat Florida, even in their down state, and we gain the psychological advantage and confidence to beat anyone. It takes more than talent, as you folks should know. I don't see how any fan can be confident of success in the heart of our SEC schedule if we are regrouping so early in the SEC season. Dat Florida game... So important for so many reasons.

The Vol's will really never be considered very good until they beat the Gators.....and shouldn't be

Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, mizzou idc who we beat as long as we beat a good team. It's been forever since we beat a good football team. Just give me one please lol.
We beat a South Carolina team two years ago that finished #4 in the nation. I guess it depends on your definition of forever.

Florida's the most emotionally exportation game to the fan base. However, that Georgia game will dictate if we make it to the SEC Championship. If we win that game, I think we end up there. I just don't see Mizzu getting there again. Florida has virtually no chance and we have beat S Carolina with worse teams. That makes the Georgia game the linchpin.

Was Arkansas riding at 10/5/8 game losing streak to OleMiss last October?

What does that have to do with being the most important game of the season? If we somehow go 14-1 and lose to Florida then you're a moron if you think that was the most important game. Situations determine the most important game year in and year out, not streaks.

If winning the East is the goal, then the Mizzou and UGA games would be the most important.

Having said that, losing a decade straight to the same team (especially considering how terrible Florida has been the past 2 years) is embarrassing and needs to stop.

Notice how I left sc off the list of teams we haven't beat. To most ut fans especially long time fans the South Carolina game has never been considered a "big game" for ut. Yeah we beat them but we also lost to vandy after that. We had already lost like 5 games at that point and sc just got caught over looking us for a noon kick. But I guess that was a good win. Even tho we were already out of contention for anything meaningful

Is there any viable excuse for the Vols to lose to Florida in 2015?

We've got to throw down the gauntlet. We've got to lay down a marker. It's Dale Carter 2 time. It's Peyton Manning to Joey Kent time.

It's the most important game of 2015. We've got to establish a new sheriff in the East. We've got to get this monkey off our back. We've got to let the world know that Butch has got this and McEnroe, McElway, whoever is coaching down there just picked the wrong time to try to make a name. It's gonna be 9 in a row the other way.

If the single focus of Butch, Debord, and Jancek from now until Sept 27th is defeating Florida, their minds are in the right place.

It will be Volmaggedon if we lose. It will be Mance Rayder riding to the Sunsphere with 100,000 mattresses and lighting the biggest fire the East has ever seen.

Beat Florida 2015. GBO!

I hope we win. I feel like we are closing the gap each year. But....Florida has a higher recruiting average; we play in the swamp; and they've got the psychological MOJO on us.

Dear team 119, please make me eat my words . thanks

I dont buy the psychological edge. That's a fan thing. The recruiting edge is the problem. I hope we have evened the gap. We shall see.

Alasalami is ALWAYS the most important game of the year...until we beat them back into the mud hoppers they crawled out of the ocean as. Then I might beat them for fun.

I believe a win over Florida would definitely signal the Vols return to prominence.

That said after this year I absolutely will not believe Tennessee will beat Florida until the clock hits 0:00 Tennessee has the winning score.

AND both teams are already showered and back in street clothes.

I do think that the Florida game gives us the most potential for positive momentum.

Muschamp is in auburn now young ones. Be more worried about auburn than floriduh. Beating a first year head coach is not high on my most important lists. You kids are on a different planet than me. It's night and day.

Beating satan's midget face in with a salami is not inly the most important thing you will do all year, it's the most important thing you will do in your lifetime. Setting Kittens hair on fire is a close second.
