On paper? Probably
In reality? Nope. Gainesville is a sewer. The fans are scattered with FSU, Miami, and the others (CFU, FAU, SFU, etc). There is a reason they never won before Spurrier and only Meyer has managed to come close to that level.
there's a lot of things that have turned around at TN between 2008 and today. This is why I think the AD is critical.
Coaches are looking more at the ADs these days. I've said it a million times, but the reason Fuente went to Virginia Tech is because he felt comfortable with the AD Babcock. He could've taken a job higher on the "prestige totem pole" if he wanted to, but he didn't. When you look at how Florida canned McElwain, what USC did to Kiffin, and what LSU did to Les Miles, coaches are definitely looking at how the Athletic Departments are going to treat them nowadays. No coach wants to be in a situation where they are in Year 3 and lose a couple of close games and get fired, while they are still building up the program.
I think your analysis is basically right. Florida is easier to "turn around quickly" because of the recruiting turf, but is it actually a better job? In 1995, I would've said "yes." In 2005, I would've said "yes." In 2017, I lean towards "no." Tennessee is miles ahead on facilities and what it can sell recruits. Tennessee's own recruiting turf has improved significantly. Florida is still a better job for recruiting, but a coach might very well see "higher upside" at Tennessee. Which is why I think coaches will heavily analyze the AD.
The allure of Florida is still great enough so that they'll land a very good coach, minimum. But I don't think it's automatic any more that a coach would chose Florida over Tennessee.
Florida doesn't have Alabama on the schedule every year so there is that...easier road to the east
Our Athletic Department issues are fixable as well. And, I believe the Recruiting advantage is over stated. I'll give you that for now, there's a perception issue though with Florida job being an easier place to win.
the fact that their AD actually gives a **** about winning makes them a better job.
Maybe I am taking the question differently than you, but I would say Muschamp, and the Shark Breeder would disagree with your statement at this point.
Let me guess, they get rid of the Shark Breeder and they are going to go back to back SECE champs? Good luck to them on that.
What they are implying about the Shark Breeder is actually a very big negative I would imagine to other coaches who could be interested in the position. Still unsure exactly who that might be.![]()
I guess we'll see. Depends on what our brain dead administration does. Im sure we all said the same thing when they hired Shark Humper yet they won the east again.
Ask yourselves who these coaching candidates would choose assuming money were equal
I'm hearing media folks say that between Florida and Tennessee any coach would take Florida over Tennessee. One comment was that "it's easier to win a championship at Florida than it is at Tennessee. Really? Then why'd you hire Muschamp and McElwain if that were true? The recruiting area is about the only advantage Florida might have over Tennessee.

Stop the madness.
There isnt anyone anywhere that hasnt been laughing about how badly Florida sucks the last few years and now all of a sudden, people want to throw out this winning the sec East garbage.
Like it was some sort of accomplishment.
Yeah, tallest midget!
Everyone knows why Mac was fired and that he wasnt getting it done.
Stop the BS
He got fired when he did because he was stupid enough to give you all cause to save several million.
And if Butch does something similar and Currie doesn't jump all over it? They both should either become homebodies or masters of disguise.
