I would say after LSU and UNC last year, Dooley will NEVER feel a game is safe! But in the end he will be respectful.

Agreed. Run it up to a comfortable level and add some subs. Still gonna keep the playbook open and if we keep scoring then they should field a better defense. Then look across the field and say, "You mad bro?"

we have to gain experience, so i believe he will play subs but keep trying to score. if their 1st team def. can't stop our backups, then the onus is on them. hopefully that's florida, alabama, and other echelon schools.

Sub in backups and run his offense. Seems that's what we did against UT Martin and Memphis last year.

I think he will respectfully keep the score comfortable. I don't think he will sit on it though. An old coach once told me that if you run the score up on a team that is having a down or mediocre year, it could come back to bite you when your having a down or mediocre year.

Fer gawd's sake! UT isn't even in a position to win, let alone run up a score. Let's all be happy with winning and see how it plays out.

I dont know how to answer this as it will always be circumstantial. For instance if Vols are ever up 35-0 in the first half I believe Dooley will run the clock second half much like 06 when we torched California outta the gate under Fulmer. However if for most part its not up 4 scores going into second half then dooley will timidly stay aggressive. Coaches often are afraid to run up scores especially in SEC now because next year could be your turn to beat the brakes off them. So I suppose my answer will be somewhere in the middle but that is a good thing. Smart yet respectful.

Running up the score really has three different levels:

1. Keeping the starters in against an inferior opponent. Example: Tim Tebow never left the game for pretty much three straight seasons. This is not a desirable thing, and I don't think CDD would do it.

2. Pulling the starters but running normal offense. Example: UTM/Memphis last year. This is fine, as it gives the backups meaningful experience running the team's standard plays.

3. Taking advantage of mistakes. Example: Ole Miss last year, USCe in 2009. Not much you can do about it when the other team keeps throwing to your defense. Pull the starters at some point, but really, don't we all just love these games? I know I do.

Well being that two of his good friends are coaches at Alabama and Florida, even if he had the chance, I don't think he'd run the score up on those guys! And to me, that's a problem....

To me the difference is Fulmer had experience and depth on his team and he could afford to go conservative. Dooley has players that needs snaps and plays and not just 3yrds and a cloud of dirt. It would be nice if Worley could redshirt but if not he could be out there throwing in the 4th, just like Saban did when he had inexperienced backup qbs. I never had a problem with any team throwing in the 4th in a blowout game if they had backups out there. Its the defenses job to stop them and you get young guys snaps and you never know when your gonna need them to start. Especially with our lack of experience at WR they need passes and to be running routes. But also have young RB's who will need touches. So I can see both being done.You had to be much safer last year with our depth and not getting as many guys hurt but you can afford to do it a little bit more this year.

He'll run the score up, if the crowd doesn't like it then he'll launch his headset up there and scream...

I hope he doesn't go into butt tight mode like Phil did. I don't see him rubbing anyone's face in it either, not his style.

This situation has been a huge problem for the coaching staff at tennessee for a few years now.

The constant pressure of this dilemma is almost unbearable.
