The No. 3 overall prospect in the country and No. 1 offensive tackle according to Rivals.com, D.J. Humphries (Charlotte, NC), announced the final five teams he will consider playing for in 2012 on Monday.
"In order, they are Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina, and Clemson," the 6'5", 265-pound Humphries told Mike Farrell of Rivals.com. "I've done a lot of research on these schools, visited each one, and have a good feeling about each. I planned to get it down to around five by the end of the summer, and I'm happy with these choices."
Humphries will make official visits to all five of these schools eventually, but only has one visit set up for now.
"I have my only official visit set up with [Florida] for their game against Alabama the weekend of Oct. 1," Humphries said about what is his top school at the moment.
The Gators are the clear favorite at this point, and Tennessee is the school Humphries has visited most, but do not be surprised if South Carolina winds up signing the Mallard Creek High School standout in February.
"South Carolina feels like home to me because I was born and raised in Union, which is about 45 minutes away," Humprhies said. "I really like coach Elliot, and he and I talk quite a bit as well. The atmosphere there is great as well. I've been there probably three times."
The long shot in the race for Humphries' services appears to be Clemson, who are only in the hunt because they were one of the first teams to spot his talent.
"Clemson was my first offer, and I feel a sense of loyalty to them for being first," Humphries said.
Do not expect a decision from the nation's top offensive tackle prospect anytime soon, though. Humphries will likely wait to make his commitment until either National Singing Day in February or the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 7th.
This is probally a good thing.
