Is Derek Dooley going to Florida?

The hate for Dooley is strong. He recruited Hunter, Rogers, and CP, and in the NFL has had Dez Bryant get better under him, as well as Beasley and one of the top 7 or so QBs in the NFL to throw to his guys.

He'd be dumb to come back to college for anything but a HC job or a coordinator at a top school, Especially considering his team was one play (or bad call depending on your view) from being in a conference championship. He wouldn't be in the NFL if he didn't know something, and they especially wouldn't be winning if he weren't at least average. And an average NFL positions coach is really damn good.

Of course, his bad luck is why that call was overturned, so take it how you will.

Would DD make recruits think he knows how to get them into the NFL?

Seems like another recruiting hire. Which I'm ok with.

Dooley is a horrible recruiter. It's unreal all the bridges he burned with HS Coach's..Hope UF does hire him. I could Coach the talent at WR that Dallas has along with Witten.

A good SEC program has OC's and DC's leaving to become head coaches of other universities. At UT we have head coaches (Kiffin, Dooley) leaving to become coordinators or position coaches at other universities.

Just shows how upside down we've been.

Kiffin left to become a HC and Dooley was fired and had limited options. So ours were both different situations. Neither just quit to go become Coordinators. USC could argue that about Kiffin more than we could but he was used by USC the way Ala used Shula. Good recruiters used as stop gaps during probation yrs.

Say what you will about Dooley, but he's a pretty good WR coach. That was about the only position group that seemed to consistently be good while he was here.

If Florida were hiring him as a D-line coach, then I'd be giddy. Otherwise, this would be a reasonable hire (neither great nor poor) and I don't really care so long as he's not on our sideline any more.

However, I'd have to wonder why he'd go from Dallas Cowboys WR coach to Florida Gators WR coach, especially when the Cowboys have a chance to compete for a Super Bowl. Is he reading the tea leaves and seeing he has no future in the NFL? Is he being forced out? Nothing against the Florida Gators (who I hate as opponents, but respect as a program), but I just don't understand why you'd leave what seems to be a very good position in the NFL. Maybe he's aiming to be an OC in college?

Do agree. NFL you don't have to be on the road recruiting on a weekly basis. You do have to deal with the Ego's and coaching guys you didn't bring in yourself like you can when you recruit. Plus you get an NFL pension after so many yrs. But some guys prefer coaching college kids while others are NFL for live guys. Dooley sucked as a recruiter and honestly see him being an NFL guy.

Is this a good hire? Or just the normal school pandering that the hire is the best ever?

Idk enough about him to say one way or the other, but his recruiting abilities are really being blown out of proportion. Oregon signed only two 4* WR's (plus one athlete, but I think he's projected to be a RB) the past couple recruiting classes with one last year and one this year. Idk how big of a part he played in their commits at other positions so can't speak on that. I would think, though, if he was such an outstanding recruiter and a WR coach, he would be pulling a few big name WR's each year and not just 2.

Again, idk hardly anything about the guy, and I'm sure he's a great WR coach, but just looking at the last 2 recruiting classes briefly, I didn't see anything too impressive recruiting-wise.

if they can manage to win and not look like they miss allen and carrinton who i think went out inbetween the fsu game and the title game it would say he's a hell of coach with a kickass stable of wr's highly rated coming out of high school or not
