Is Butch the next Mark Richt?

I think some context needs to be addressed here. Richt came to Georgia in 2001. He followed Jim Donnan, whom from 1996-2000, went 40-19 with 4 straight bowl victories.

Butch Jones came to Tennessee in 2013. He followed the worst coach in school history. Dooley went 15-21, with 4 total conference wins and zero bowl wins. Yes Butch has a ways to go, but he didnt walk into a winning program like Richt did.

Fair point. It's amazing how far we've come when you look back to the Dooley years

Mark Right is a solid coach. He played in the toughest league in college football and consistently delivered wins. The proof is in the pudding. He got fired and was immediately re-hired by a top of the line program. That says everything.

honestly,i think the end of this year presents a fork in the road for CBJ and co.....

the legacy class is all but done after this year, and team 121 will be comprised of 100% Butch.

there's two ways this can go....up to this point it's been all about rebuilding. job well done for the most part.

the question that has to be answered is where does it go from here? i think it's hard to draw any comparisons to any other coach right now. the situation he took over was far worse than what Richt took over, way worse than what Fulmer inherited.

there's no arguing that he's been good for the program to this point. but the shine is wearing off fast. so which fork does HE take...that's the real question. the direction of this program from this point forward is all on Butch.

i personally think it's peaked. but in the interest of the future hasn't happened yet, and he can still do things to change the destiny of the program under his watch....it could get better.

i just don't think he has it in him to make the necessary changes and adjustments to himself, to make that happen.

10-2 was a very reasonable expectation with this schedule and poor SEC East....

And a loss tonight is NOT too far-fetched....

Jones has brought some stability and esprit de corps to the program, but has also demonstrated that he lacks some necessary leadership and coaching attributes to compete with the best in the SEC...

He is going to get 2 more years regardless--and probably should for the benefit of program stability.

I'm just no longer convinced that he is the guy to get us into the Final Four....time will tell.....

If Butch wants to win and compete in the SEC, he needs top notch recruiting, and some how get 95% of them to stick around at least 3 years

oooh oooh ....
We missed on Charlie Strong the first time.
He's gonna be available. Let's go get him!

I admit openly that I wanted Strong. I still think he is a good coach. Texas is a bad situation. We were a bad situation so he probably wouldn't have done well here either.

The Vols are already the "the champions of life" according to CBJ, Mark Richt was always the "Paper Nat'l Champions" according to the local newspaper. I think there is a trophy for the life champs...

The problem I have with making this quote? You need to make it in April, not November.

In April, it is a mission statement as you hand over the keys to a habitat for humanity house.

In November, it sounds like a lame excuse. Butch needs to learn the fine art of timing.

Heads up against Jones at UT, he was only 2-1, would have been 2-2 had he been there this year. Hardly anything to be singing from the mountaintops about, Jones was becoming his daddy.

Do what?? Not much of an argument there Remy.
