Questions to start a good debate: Is Eric Berry the best defensive player ever at UT? Please consider only college (i.e, do not take into account what they did in the NFL).

Consider the following players:
1. Reggie White
2. Al Wilson
3. Deon Grant
4. John Henderson
5. Others?

Eric is great, but has he made an impact yet like Al Wilson single handly beating UF the year we won the National Championship?

He is the most explosive def. player ever at UT! The best? That remains to be seen. He has 10 games left this year to put himself in that spot!

My favorite all time player on D was Will Overstreet - was he the best, probably not. But I loved his effort - 110% on every play.

Of Course he gave 110%. He was a white defensive player, just like David Pollack, man what a motor that guy had!

I wonder if people would worship Bernard Jackson, if he'd have had the motor of a white guy...

Right now, I'd put him just behind Reggie and Al.

There's "the greats" and then "everybody else" to me. EB, Wilson, White, Atkins, and a few others are the former. I've never had much success in my mind with "best" out of that group.

What the...?

Sarcasm! My point is anytime a white guy is successful they always seem to be a hard worker or have a great motor(according to the experts). Very rarely do we hear a white player is talented or a great athlete.

Reggie White - the best defensive lineman in the history of football and possibly the best overall defensive player with an argument being made for LT.

Eric Berry is great and one of the best but I don't know if he is better than Haynesworth, Henderson, Little and Wilson. He is the best DB and that includes Carter, Fair, Grant, Allen, Wilson and many others that made it to the NFL.

Did Jim Bob Cooter play defense? I thought he played both ways in his 4 years of leading the Vols to victory. If so, Cooter is the greatest player of all time (regardless of whether he played offense, defense, or played at all)
