Is Auburn really that much better than last season?

My point is, UCLA may be better than people thought, thats it. As far as being the only undefeated team in the PAC-10 I was just stating fact not crowning them the best team in college football.

I'll give you that for sure. The way things look out West, UCLA has a great chance to be in the Rose Bowl. That would def. look very good for the Vols.

It will all boil down to matchups. Our RB's against thier LB's, our secondary against AU's receivers, and so on. Also, coaches against coaches. It should be an interesting game. I think both teams are pretty evenly matched. I'm excited to see what Monty has up his sleeve this time around against the Malzahn offense.

If you think Chizik and crew are anywhere close to Kiffin and company you're crazy.

Malzahn is the guy that wanted a freshman QB to throw 30 times a game with 3 NFL players in the offensive backfield.

Interesting but fail. Auburn lost but I thought we were still talking about this year. So I guess all the sudden the Pac-10 is such a great conference? Im not sold on that.

Pac-10 is probably on par with the big 12 as far as being the second best conference right now. But both are a solid step below the SEC.

I think UCLA and WVU are fairly evenly matched. We lost because our offense couldn't get going. Auburn won because WVU couldn't hang on to the football.

Auburn would lose to florida.

I see our teams being fairly equal.

WVU turned the ball over how many times against Auburn? And no, WVU is not that good.
Well we'll just agree to disagree, and see what all unfolds throughout this season.

Every UT fan knows what to expect from LSU's D. It's not surprise Chavis couldn't stop a Mullen-led offense.
Ok, so if LSU is "suppose" to be the real Tigers, then how does this enter into the equation. We apparently havent played anyone, how come we hammered MSU but the "real" Tigers barely escaped with a win. Who cares if they know what to expect, MSU still gave LSU all they could handle.

Agreed 100%! No matter what happens Sat or the rest of the season I'll take our new staff over AU's anyday!! Tuberville recruited better and left alot more talent at AU than Tubbyphil did at TN! I know to most its all about what have you done for me lately, but for me its all about the future!

I don' tthink I said anything about AU's coaching staff being better. I am however, looking forward to how Monte makes adjustments to the spread offense that Malzahn uses. As good as he (Monte) is, he doesn't have a lot of experience in slowing down the spread with non NFL players.

I dont disagree. Its like this each of our teams have their strong points with the other team not necessarily have the same strength, but as a whole they are evenly matched.

I agree, the match up b/w Kiffin and Malzahn is going to be great.

As Vol and Tiger fans, lets just be glad we have new staffs, at least as a Vol fan I am...

Some of you may think the two teams are evenly matched, but I don't see AU being able to stop the Vols running attack. Florida's great D had trouble with it and AU is no where close to as good. And IMO, the AU offense has been just fluff. We have Rogan back, and hopefully Walker...the two are very important to the TN defense stopping AU. All that plus our 102K+ fans...TN wins by 10.

Maybe so, but we're not setting the world on fire stopping the passing game. Personally, I'm disappointed in our DB's.....discounting EB.

I'm not too concerned about the dbs. They have looked pretty good until the Ohio game, and with Rogan back and CMK making a few adjustments, we should look much better on Sat. I'm concerned with Walker and our LBs, though.

I think Hardesty is having a great year. He reminds me of a combination of Moreno, Kenny Irons, and Cadillac. He's tough, runs hard, and tears of 8-15 yards in a hurry. I'm concerned about him. However, to say Florida had trouble is maybe relative to your passing game. You still ran the ball only 117 yards, or 3.7 yards per carry. Most of the damage came on one drive after the turnover.

That said, slowing your run or not will determine if you score 6 points or 30 points.

As for our offense....have you watched complete Auburn games this year? I'm curious to know why you think any of the offense is "fluff"? The difference in last years team and this years team can not be overstated. So far this year, this teams has run the ball every way imaginable. They have run between the tackles, off tackle, sweeps, reverses, options, wild cat, etc. And they have had success with all of it. No fluff, just variety. And when the other team has been determined to stop the run, so far we've been able to throw down field effectively (see Todd as third in the country in TD passes and in the top 10 in passing efficiency).

I'll admit, we haven't faced anyone near the caliber of Eric Berry or your defense in general, but to call our offense so far "fluff" just tells me you haven't done anything other than check our box scores and come up with your own conclusion.

That's exactly how I came up with my "conclusion". AU hasn't played a decent defense. Remember when most Vols fans thought we were top ten offense after the WKU game? I do. Until AU can put yards against a respectable D, then it's just "fluff".

I'll add another thing...you kind of have a bit of a catch 22 if you want to hang your hat on holding Florida to 323 yards when you gave up 340 the next week to Ohio.

Also, the UCLA team that scored 19 on you beat San Diego State by a 33-14 and Kansas State 23-9. K-State lost to Louisiana Lafayette. San Diego State lost to Idaho and Air Force. These are not good teams that UCLA has beaten, and they have not looked good in beating them. (359 yards of offense in both games, hardly impressive).

Anyway, I've watched Tennessee play three games, and I think the defense is solid, just going by the eyeball test. But on paper, giving up 340 to Ohio is just as much a bad thing as holding Florida to 323 is a good thing.

WVU will not win the Big East.

LSU hired a mediocre DC. Les Miles is a dumbass.

What in the hell are you talking about with the "real" Tiger nonsense?

I think as the year goes on, you'll find that the La Tech, Miss State, and West Virginia defenses are far more respectable than the offenses of Western Kentucky, UCLA, and Ohio.

My point is, our offensive numbers are every bit as legit as your defensive numbers.

And our defense could surprise you a little. Don't forget, we gave up 21 of the 30 points against West Virginia in the first quarter. We were overly agressive against a very quick team. After we adjusted, they scored 9 points. Same for yardage. They gained 239 yards in the first quarter, 270 the rest of the game.

Against Ball State, after getting a 40-10 lead in the 3rd, subs ran the defense. In fact, in the fourth quarter, we had scout team defensive players on the field with other subs. Scout team guys don't even know the other teams offense or what they do. They were lost. But because we lack depth, that's what the coaches decided to do. They even said they didn't care won tiny rats ass how many points Ball State scored down the stretch.

The fact is, these are all things no one would know by watching highlights and reading recaps. I'm sure there are similar things about the Vols that you guys know that the rest of us wouldn't. I'm just suggesting you consider that fact and consider that Auburn could be for real, and could have a decent shot a win #5 in a row.
