Is anyone else still not ready to call South Carolina.....

Why, because their opinion differs from yours?

Go Vols.

No because his post was not very intelligent... Tennessee OL> Georgia OL. We can, and will beat Carolina. Everyone is overlooking us. It's the perfect storm IMO. Their secondary is weak and will be exploited if Bray has time. Go Vols!

Haha, not very intelligent? Good one. What I'm saying is, yes, our O-Line is very solid in the pass blocking dept. But A. They haven't faced very many pass rushes like the one South Carolina can bring and B. Even if they stop even most of it, the almost certainly can't stop ALL of it and since our offense likes to base a lot of pass plays on waiting for plays to open, that will disrupt drives and make it difficult to sustain anything. Maybe you should think before you call something unintelligent.

Our Oline will block them enough for us to make plays. The question is will TB step into the pressure they bring and deliver accurate balls downfield. The oline isn't the area that is a worry IMO

You will? I assume you are willing to leave if you are wrong then?

I'm just worried about them breaking through occasionally and disrupting a pass play or getting a sack or forcing Bray into making a mistake. I have great faith in our line's pass blocking ability but I also now how dominant the SC pass rush can be...should be a great match and I do think our line will step up...but it only takes one sack or one int to kill a drive and that's what worries me...sustaining drives.

South Carolina is good.

This reminds me of the threads from last year with people talking about how we could still compete against Arkansas.

We've got crap luck guys, we had to play the best of the West last year in juggernauts at LSU and Bama, then try our damnedest against a high-powered Arky.

This year we've got the beasts of the east in top 10 Florida, UGA, and South Carolina.

Before the season started it was a foregone conclusion that Dooley would find 8 wins in this schedule. He's still trying, but people still holding onto a dream of beating an SEC East front-runner need to accept the reality of this season.

You'll be the same people on here after the SCar game with hurt feelings because Dooley let you down.

EIGHT AND FOUR

They will do that on occasion but an experienced QB must handle it. The same issue is at play the next 3 weeks. If TB handles it we will have a shot to win. How much of a shot depends on our D.

I think you all match up waaaaayyyyy better against SCAR. My Dawgs just didn't show up, not that we can't whip their azzes, but u gotta show up first. UT's o line will be the big equalizer, and Bray will be able to pick their secondary apart. Starts with your line tho, and it is a good one! Fwiw, I hope you beat the unholy hell outa the cocks! They are the most obnoxious fan base in the SEC definitely. By the way, that was their best game ever, don't expect them to bring that intensity every week. Go Vols!

USC seems to be good for a big game every year or so. Remember when Garcia played a perfect game against bama a couple years back? There's just no accounting for what teams are capable of on any given week.

Ol Sandstorm Spurrier is always good for some big wins at home

I'm sure that I'm not the first person to post this thought. If Connor Shaw aggravates his shoulder and is limited or cannot play this will be a very different game. Anytime that the presence of one player on the field can influence the outcome of a game (see UTK-UF 2011 with the Hunter injury) you cannot call the game without knowing whether that person will suit up. I'm not hoping that Shaw gets hurt, I'm just not ready to guarantee a SC victory without knowing that he will play.

The game comes down to one thing, can the D eliminate the big play?

For most teams, that means cutting down on 20-25 yard gainers. For Tennessee it means cutting down on 50+ yard scores. Those handful of extremely bad plays are literally the difference between being 3-2 and being undefeated.

I think someone posted Georgia's running stats minus their 3-4 long scoring runs and they were averaging something like 3 ypc.

So, my argument is this...If the defense can somehow get better on 3 plays per game, we have a chance.

That said, anyone who thinks that we SHOULD beat USC this year is out of their mind.

100% agree with you. I have alot of faith in our O line and they have proven there worth time and again. Ive said it before, we can put up serious points on anyone and have no doubt we will score well against MSU. Our D is the MAIN reason we are 3-2. I hope they worked there butts off during bye week. If our D starts playing like an sec defense should we will win this game big and the team confidence will soar. DD's credilibity and future at UT " and yes Im a DD fan" hinge on the D getting there act together.

Look over there. That is where their stadium is. They're going to walk over there soon.

a definite loss for Tennessee and God's gift to all things football? I see a lot of talk about how they're going to kill us, they're a definite loss, we will be lucky to score on them, etc. I seriously don't think the Georgia/SC game represents the talent gap between those two teams. South Carolina was firing on all cylinders, and Georgia went full retard

from the beginning. Remember this is the same South Carolina team that beat Vandy by 4 (and Vandy got boned on a last minute PI no-call), and let Kentucky drop 17 on them (Louisville held them to 14, and Florida shut them out)

I may be wrong, they may win the east, but personally I think Florida manhandles them. I feel the same way about them I did two weeks ago, only now I see that they have a stronger A-game than I might have though. But I also think if we can bring our A-game, we have the potential to beat anybody.

Yay/nay?

There are a lot of factors at play - what sort of injuries do we sustain vs. Miss St. and Alabama - what kind of injuries do they sustain vs. LSU and Florida. One key injury to a qb, rb, or wr could dramatically impact the effectiveness of each team. The same applies to defense. LSU was a completely different team at the end of the Florida game vs. the start. Loosing two starting linebackers and a couple of interior offensive lineman swung the tide and allowed Florida to take control.

Additionally --the effectiveness of the adjustments to our secondary scheme and players might effect the outcome.

It's not too great a stretch for say the 15th best team in the country to beat the 5th best - just need a break or two to go our way.
